This is a followup question for Dr. Anunai shrivastav who answered my question recently. He suggested to stop ramipril and take olmesartan 40 mg. Thanks for that. I will be obliged if he can tell me, if I can take telmisartan 40 mg which is consumed by my wife and is readily available with us. I can try that for a week if doctor has no reservations. Advice if amlodipine also can be continued with telmisartan. For olmesartan 40 mg ,i do not have prescription. I paste below my earlier question for reference as below:- I am diabetic on insugen 30/70 refill injection, glycomet gp2, ppg 0.3 mg and other drugs. I am also hypertensive on ramipril 5 mg and amlodipine 5 mg. My query is related to hypertension and not on diabetic problem. I am taking the above medicines for last 5 years on hypertension but my hypertension is more than 160/75. It shoots to 175 frequently. I began treadmill jogging exercise for 1 hour every day and then hypertension reduces to about 150/72. If I do not jog for 1 day, hypertension goes back to 160/170. I am consuming ramipril 5 mg + amlodipine 5 mg everyday, once before lunch. The hypertension is not at all reduced with these drugs but only by jogging. I am 60 years old and jogging for 1 hour is very strenuous, leading to knee pain frequently. Suggest replacement drugs for hypertension.

best medicine to control blood pressure is exercise as you realize. As of now your blood pressure menu is having space to either increase dose or add one more drug. Here I will suggest to add one more drug chlorthalidone 12.5 mg.

I was taking olmesartan 20 mg 1od & metoprolol 25 mg extended release 1 bd for hypertension. I also have ckd baseline creatinine increased to 1.4. I had a ptca in jan 2015 and on clopidogrel 75 mg + aspirin 150 mg -1od & nitrocontin 2.6 mg bd. My bp was excellent controlled with systolic 110-120 & diastolic 70 to 80 during the last 8 years issue since my potassium was varying between 5.5 to 5.8 during the last 5 years, I was told by my nephrologist to cut arb ie olmesartan 20 mg and increase metoprolol to 50 mg bd while my potassium has come down to 4.9 within limits in 30 days after stopping arb, my blood pressure is going up to 165/96 with 50 mg metoprolol ed twice a day. Since I am a diabetic & ckd, please suggest a medicine to get my bp to a target level of 120/80 .my resting heart rate is between 60 to 75 echo is normal with only grade 1 lvdd. Ecg normal.

I am hypertensive and type 2 diabetic, hypertension from last 4 years, diabetes from 1 year, I am 45 year old, I tried medication like Amlodipine/Olmesartan/Telmisartan in combination of Hydrochlorothiazide + Benidipine + Chlortalidone, nothing helped me, but when ever I take propranolol or Atenolol I feel comfortable, I came to know Atenolol and propranolol are not safe in diabetic, I am worried to take, my doctor giving me Olmesartan alone some time I feel chest pain, please advise weather I can continue with Atenolol or with propranolol in long run without any problems. Please help me. Thank you.

propranolol or other betablockers group of medicines have minimal side effects compared to other medicines you had been taking
continue with medicines even if bp gets normal because these betablockers reduce the risk of getting heart attack or stroke
second fear, safety for diabetics, these medicines do affect blood sugar levels and lipids too but it's so minimal that your dose of Medicine for diabetes will not be affected.

I am a female, 61 years old. I am hypertension and I take the following medicines - In the morning- CTD 12. 5 mg, Olmesartan Medoxomil 40 mg and Prazosin Hydrochloride Extended Release 5 mg. At night- Prazosin HCl ER 5 mg and Cilnidipine 10 mg. As I was not feeling my normal self for the last few days (around 11 am daily), I went to a doctor (medical specialist), who found my blood pressure to be low (114/70). Even BP recorded at home for the last two days was lower. Doctor now has advised to stop taking CTD totally and also to stop Prazosin HCl ER 5 mg in the morning. What is your opinion on the doctor's advice, especially with regards to stopping CTD instantly, without any dose reduction. Awaiting an early response please. Best regards.

Your blood pressure is on lower side hence needs to cut down of medicine.
Just keep a check on BP.

My mother is suffering from diabetes and bp from 3 months she is having vomiting sensation and also vomiting while having food. Her bp level is 115/78. Sugar level is 175 mg/dl. I am using olmesartan h20 for hyper tension from 5 years, I am taking bp reading at home by automatic bp monitor frequently. My first reading always shows little high than 2 and 3 reading die to anxiety and stress. Which reading should be considered 1 reading or later reading. Pls suggest. Example: 1 reading 144/70. 2 reading 115/70. 3 reading 117/70. How often to check bp readings. Regards.

Automatic bp readings are very sensitive.
Before measuring your bp, please lie down, close your eyes, relax for 2 minutes and then ask someone else to measure your bp.

Sir, I am suffering from type 2 diabetes last 15 years presently taking tab. Pioglit 15 mg at breakfast tab. metformin 500 mg before lunch and dinner my hba1c was 6.45 and fs 104 and pp 125. Apart from this bph and high blood pressure for which taking silodosin 8 mg at night and olmesartan 40 mg respectively and from few days taking pregabalin 750 mg and symbal 20 mg for sciatica problem. I am in opinion my fs is not proper. Please suggest me. Thanks.

Hello sir. Going by your hba1c and blood glucose levels your diabetes looks under control. It is also important to keep your blood pressure in check with regular monitoring. In case of any symptoms pertaining to hypoglycemia like sweating, tremors or shaking in hands, dizziness on fasting then we can be concerned. Otherwise your number looks just fine. Take care.

I need a second opinion on hypertension treatment. I was recently detected with high bp and put on telma 40. However, after 3-4 days, my bp became rather low and after consulting doc, I switched to telma 20. However, then on the second day, I had sudden momentary black out and automatically feeling of anxiety and my bp shot up. Fyi, I also had vertigo 2 years ago. So, I went to another doctor, who is also a neurologist and he has prescribed olmesartan 20 + sos lopazun .25 for anxiety. Please advise if which line of treatment is better.

My mother is 76 years old and taking medicines for diabetes, bp and thyroid for last 8-9 years. She is currently taking (1)-tab olmesartan 20 mg for bp (2)-tab thyroxine 25 for hypothyroidism (3)-tab metformin sr 850 mg -1bd and tab ozomet vg-2 before lunch for diabetes now although her bp and thyroid tests are normal but her fasting sugar level remains around 135 -140 and post meals sugar level remains around 280-290. Please suggest suitable medicines.
