When you stop Methimez, The symptoms of Hyperthyroidism mayreappear. This will have to be addressed by your treating doctor.
For my patients, I would check TSH Receptor antibodies (TRAB) to help make the decision to withdraw Methimez.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Usually treatment with antithyroid drugs is given for 18 to 24 months. Initially started with lower dose, then increased to about 10 mg 3 times a day or twice a day, depending upon the need. Usually it takes over 6 to 12 months or even longer for TSH to return to normal. Then dosage may be reduced or discontinued. However, 3 months is too short a period to judge. There is nothing like best medicine. Every doctor advises his patient best medicine which means the medicine which can treat/control your problem without harm. Graves disease should be treated and can't be left as such and should be treated under supervision of a specialist.

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query.
Usually Methimazole or any other anti-thyroid drug therapy is given over a period of 12 to 18 months.
If need be Methimazole may be repeated for one more time. However, there is always a possibility of relapse. Plus multiple side effects associated with antithyroid drugs. If furthar relapse occur, then best method to treat is to use Radio Active Iodine, This is a simpler method with very few side effects and better outcomes. Thanks.
