Sorry to know that your mother is in pain, burning sensation could be due to diabetes ,rapid correction of blood sugars or kidney related issues. Please check her body weight, blood pressure and serum creatinine. Muscle pain could be a part of neuropathy and if there is stiffness relaxants like baclofen or tizanidine could help.

Usually when diabetes is present for a long time (number of years), it does lead to certain long term complications like peripheral neuropathy. This happens even with fairly good glucose control. If control is not very good then symptoms tend to increase, which include numbness, tingling and even pain.
