yes you can take metformin, this is first drug of choice, but consult your family doctor before stating matformin.

You can add alpha glucosidase inhibitor to control PP after consulting your doctor. You can also switch to basal plus tnsulin therapy consulting your physician/ diabetologist/ endocrinologist by adding short acting insulin before largest meal. Yes you can switch to wockhardt or lupin brand for economic reason otherwise they are not superior what you are already taking.
