Hi lybrate-user, beta thal major requires regular blood transfusion and with each transfusion we adding iron, it's like intravenous iron therapy and they child land with iron overload. To prevent it there should be proper counseling of parents regarding need of iron chelation and regular monitoring of the same is required.

yes, taking a fruit rich in vitamin c along with an iron rich food can inhance it by four folds. lemon will also do the same. you can have nimbu ki shikanji with jaggery instead of sugar.

Ferritin is not iron but is a protein in the body which contains iron. As ferritin is the main form in which iron is stored in the body the amount of ferritin which is found in the blood reflects the amount of total iron which is available to your body. Ferritin is, therefore, the best indicator of iron deficiency.
Obviously, low ferritin means your iron stores are low and can cause hair loss.

Hi, Please have a well balanced diet. Also have iron rich foods like garden cress seeds 2 tsp soaked overnight and take with 1/2 lime. Bajra, Red poha, Dates, Anjeer, Leafy vegetables. Any over the counter iron supplement can be taken at bedtime.

Since when is she having low hb. U need to find out the cause of constant low Hb. Breathlessness etc can be because of anaemia. But at this age with diabetes it’s better to rule out other causes as wel. So I need details of medicine for this
