I am type 2 diabetic patient since 28 years with high bp and coronary heart disease (standing in 2008 and 2014). For dm taking novomix penfill 30/70 insulin three times and tablets (glister 4, morning and evening, tenpla in afternoon and ramo-100 morning and evening). Cost of novomix penfill is very high and increasing every 6 months. My family physician advised alternate insulin i.e. Wosulin 30/70 manufactured by wockhardt locally. The content of both is same except novomix is synthetic and wosulin is human. With novomix penfill and tablets my sugar levels are average 130 fasting and post lunch 175. By switching over to wosulin (cost benefit which is one third of novomix) is there any side effect? Will my sugar level will controlled? Will there weight gain. Attaching medical history. Taking novomix since last six years.

Hello, thanks for the query.
I have gone through the details given. In fact you are too many drugs to treat diabetes. Since you are on 30/70 insulin (any one is similar) you can actually achieve better control by monitoring the insulin dosage and fasting and pp glucose levels. Taking so many oral anti-diabetes drugs may not be needed.
As regards your question both the brands work in the same manner. Both contain human insulin only but compounds are different. So there is no need to worry...more

Normally starting dose of insulin for type 2 diabetes is roughly 0.4-0.6 units/kg weight. But in type 2 diabetes insulin resistance is variable. In long standing diabetes pt whose beta cells are exhausted and who is obese insulin requirement may go beyond 2-3 units/kg. HbA1c is approx average of blood sugar control in last 3 months. More HbA1c means more uncontrolled diabetes and may require more insulin.
Normally diabetologist starts insulin considering age of patient, duration of dm, HbA1c...more

First control diabetes. HbA1c should be maximum 6.5 before conceiving. It's better if you can consult gynaecologist for pre-conceptional care, right now.

Mr Iqbal, 100 g rice, apple, orange all this OK, provided your blood sugar levels are in control. You are on Insulin 30/70, 18 units twice a day plus is there any other oral anti diabetes drug ? Ayurvedic drugs could be just a supportive therapy. If diabetes is in control then fasting should be closer to 100 mg and PP should be around 150 to 170 mg and HbA1c% should be <7%. If all these values are there then eating fruits that too 1 fruit a day is fine. Rice can be had, but in lesser quantity...more

You must be having Type 1 DM. It seems that you are taking Rapidly acting insulin before food. You still need a shot of either intermediate acting or long acting insulin. Kindly visit your diabetologist for the same.

Glimda-mv 2 tablet sr may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you.
If you want to be safe pl switch to or add ayurvedic to curtail side effects and yo nourish foetus.

Hello, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given and understand your concern. From the glucose levels mentioned it is clear that your present medication is not adequate. Plus there is a need to look at your diet, exercise being done daily, weight control, lipid profile as well as serum creatinine and urea. Unless all the aspects are looked at there is no way to give any fruitful advice. Another important aspect is with a bmi of 28.72 kgs /sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/sq meter) you are...more

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
For T1 DM only effective drug is Insulin. No other drug is used or recommended. There is a mention of eltroxin tablet in the medicines being taken, that means you also have hypothyroidism. If that is not well controlled weight can go up. You are overweight with a BMI of 28.33 kgs/M2. Please check TSH value, it has to be maintained <3 mU/L for being free from symptoms of hypothyroidism. If that is properly controlled then weight reduction can be possibl...more
