According to the treatment you are getting, I can see the effort of your doctor. I think you should consider taking insulin atleast for one time in a day to control it along with your medication. As you have hba1c of 10.8, it's good for your health to start insulin atleast once daily. Pls consult to your doctor about it or you can consult me online m.

Hello, Madam thanks for the query.
You have mentioned about having T2 DM but no thing about present control (Fasting, PP glucose levels & HbA1c%). No word about , diet and extent of exercise being done. By looking at your weight & height, with a BMI of 28.51 kgs/Sq meter, you are close to being in grade 1 obesity. Your ideal weight should be about 54 kgs.
Therefore, it is possible that there is back ache, due to no exercise and excess weight. Or there could be some problem with your ba...more

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
You have mentioned only fasting glucose, it would have been better if after food values were also given. HbA1c% 8.6, is definitely high. Which means your blood glucose control has not been good during last few months. There is a need to upgrade the present treatment plus a closer look has to be given to your diet and daily exercise. You are on Glibenclamide, an old sulfonylura, it is better to change it to a newer compound. Thanks.

Mr Srinivasan, Thanks for the query.
At your age it is really better if you stop taking Glibenclamide as it has very long duration of action. Because of that it tends to lower the blood glucose for a long time. So chances of hypoglycemia (low blood glucose, < 70 mg/100 ml) is quite often seen more so in persons who are above 60 years. Now a days there are better alternatives available which do give good glucose control plus are not causing hypoglycemia.
However, with regard to changing f...more

Hello, Thanks for the query.
I have seen the details, and it is very clear from those that your blood glucose levels are too high and diabetes is totally uncontrolled.
There is an urgent need for upgrading the treatment. I am a bit surprised to see that you are taking Tenelegliptin & metformin twice a day, when it is recommended only once a day. Plus you are on Glibenclamide an old molecule when there are better drugs available. Plus there is a need to give a closer look at your diet an...more

Hypoglycemia means "less-than-normal blood sugar level" (ie, less than 70 mg%). All medicines taken for Diabetes can cause hypoglycemia. However, Insulins & certain drugs like Glibenclamide (Daonil) are more risky than others. The symptoms of hypoglycemia are: sweating, tremors, sudden thirst or hunger, palpitations, giddiness, fatigue, tiredness, etc. Some or all of these symptoms may be present. They usually occur when the patient has skips a meal or exercises more than usual or takes an o...more

Depends. If your sugar control is good you may do it less frequently. If your dietary control is at par. Your daily routine like exercise etc. Are regular. You observe on an average your sugar levels at different occasion are fairly the same you may reduce frequency. Take different samples like fasting (should be around 120. Random (should be around 200) and pp (should be around 140-150. Check your hba1c once in 6 months and it should be around 6.5-7.00.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
If your blood glucose levels are FBG 165 mg & PP 230 mg, then taking oral antidiabetic medicine 3 times a day is rather too much.
Please check your HbA1c% also and come back. The present drug combination recommended Metformin + Glibenclamide 2.5 mg once may be ok. But it is better if more recent drugs like glimepiride, tenelgliptin etc are used rather than Glibenclamide. Please remember diabetes once diagnosed will remain with you for lifetime. There is no qu...more
