Expectorants are of two types:
mucolytics: which thin out tenacious mucoid secretions in the airways
mucokinetics or âexpectorantsâ: they help the clearance of mucus by making coughing easier
both should not be prescribed in dry cough as they are known to aggravate cough.
However, wet cough is due to the secretions in the airways and should never be suppressed. Mucokinetics are used in this case which makes coughing easier.

1. Do warm saline gurgling 3-4 times daily
2. Take honitus syrup 2tsf thrice daily
3. You may have to take antibiotic along with it if no relief

Dear Lybrateuser, - Your levels are OK except triglycerides which are high - for prostatomegaly have adequate fluids & water to avoid cystitis
- have a well balanced diet with more of vegetables & fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, healthy fats, legumes, beans, sprouts
- avoid fried, processed & junk food, also foods containing saturated & trans fats

1.Take 2/ 3 glass of warm water in the morning
2.Take little more water in the day
3.Eat more fruits and green vegetables
4.No fried/ spicy/ junk/ processed/ fast food, no maida products
5.No tea/ coffee/ cold drinks
