Beat Infertility

Masters in Human Nutrition and Nutraceuticals
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Madurai
Beat Infertility

Infertility is the term usually described to a condition when a “woman” who is unable to conceive even after 6 months of unprotected sex. Its usually a self diagnosable condition which is treated by medical professional. A woman should seek a medical treatment when she is 35 or above by trying more than 6 months of unprotected sex. There are several treatments like “invitro” fertilization that provides good results for the infertile couples.
The main cause may include irregular periods, thyroid problems, diabetes, or hormonal imbalances.

As a dietitian, I would extend my hands and request you all people reading this to join my hands and lets begin to beat infertility through dietary modifications and lifestyle pattern changes.

Here are the foods to be avoided while you are trying to conceive.

Red meat since it possess high ammonia, that would interfere in the implantation of uterus. Its high acidic content, reduces the sperm cell count and lead to infertile condition.

Avoid trans fats in baked foods, processed foods, fried foods, in simple avoid eating out. Have a healthy foods prepared in home with less oils. The consumption may decrease your insulin and so makes you diabetic.

Avoid refined sugars instead take honey, jaggery, for sweetness.

It’s good to avoid non organic chicken that may produce imbalance in your hormones and thus leading to infertility.

Complete avoidance of alcohol

So, its not about the complete avoidance, you can have it occasionally. So be chill that you wont be pushed to that extreme of total abstinence to these foods. But there are some foods that I would prefer you to consume often or even daily. Here is the list

Beans, the vegetable with full of vitamins and minerals, provides you all healthy beneficiaries, as it aids in the digestion, keeps your body toxic free, so that the sperms that enters have a healthy atmosphere for development.

Leafy vegetables the essential food in all healthy diet plan, since it contains folate the vitamin, that is required for improving ovulation.

Pumpkin, specially its seeds, for the iron it provides.

Take complex carbs like whole wheat, brown rice, etc. As it may protect you from getting diabetes.

Olive oil possessing good amount of monounsaturated oil, helps in lowering the inflammation if there is any.

How does uric acid problem occur? and what are the precautions taken?

MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
Endocrinologist,
A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed. Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos for pain in joints.

Infertility: Causes and Treatment

MBBS,MD(medicine), PGDS(sexology), Fellowship in sexual medicines
Sexologist, Jaipur
Infertility: Causes and Treatment

The inability to conceive for a prolonged duration after trying to do so is usually termed as infertility. This is usually diagnosed when a couple is unable to conceive even after trying regularly, without any kind of contraceptives. There may be many causes and factors for this and it may occur in either or both partners. So, you all need to know the causes and treatment of infertility.

  1. Age: Age is a major factor that can lead to infertility for either partner. Usually, the trend now is to delay having a baby until a woman is in her thirties or even forties, in some cases. This has an adverse effect, particularly on the age of the maternal egg which may or may not be effective as far as fertilisation goes. With the advancement of age, one loses the guarantee of genetic normalcy of the egg as well.
  2. Disorders in ovulation in females: Ovulation is an essential function that helps in releasing the egg that needs to be fertilised when it comes together with the sperm at the time of ovulation. This usually occurs at a certain time every month. But disorders like PCOS or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome can lead to an inability on the part of the ovaries to release these eggs. The treatment for this includes medication that will help in maintaining more regular cycles for the release of eggs.
  3. Male factor causing Infertility: In many cases, it has been seen that anomalies in the semen analysis reveal problems of infertility with males as of low sperm count, low motility of sperm, low quantity of alive and active sperm when it comes to natural conception. In such cases, a sexologist can prescribe you medicines that will increase the semen production for better quantity and quality of the sperm. The doctor can also ask the patient to go through a number of lifestyle changes too includes abstinence from smoking and excessive drinking, as well as the cultivation of a less stressful environment. Hormonal treatment or even surgery may also required to help in some severe cases.
  4. Endometrial Polyps: In such cases, the female partner may develop finger like growths that can protrude in the form of tissue and come out of the uterine layer or the uterus. The removal of these polyps with the help of surgical procedures usually helps in such cases.

In many cases where mediation fails, the patients may have to go through IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) or other such procedures to conceive a child with artificial methods. One must explore all options and find out the best one in terms of the infertility causes that the couple may be facing. You will also need to ensure that you have a well trained and experienced sexologist doctor who can help you with the process and guide you completely about the cause of problem and prescribe you best treatment to manage infertility at the right point of time.

I have thyroid I am 40 years old, what I should do?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist,
I have thyroid I am 40 years old, what I should do?
Thyroid gland affects nearly every organ in the body. Many nutritional factors play a role in optimizing thyroid function. However, both nutrient deficiencies and excesses can trigger or exacerbate symptoms. Working in collaboration with a both a physician and a registered dietitian is essential to determine nutritional status for optimal thyroid health. Improper thyroid function causes undesired weight changes, significant cardiovascular risks, and symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, and gastrointestinal upset, which can hinder the development of healthful behaviors. I focus on setting realistic goals for healthy changes and regular exercise when counseling clients. There many potential nutrient deficiencies and interactions with medications and supplements. Hence diligent care is to be taken while designing a holistic treatment plan. I being a both a registered dietitian (rd) and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problems through a holistic approach using customized therapeutic diet and medications. I will also suggest home remedies. Do reply back for private consultation for rx.

But TSH level is high upto 13.83 where its acceptable range given in report is 0.35 - 5.50. Can anyone suggest me a good cure in this regard? What should be done now?

Mr. Lybrate-user, she has developed hypothyroidism, which needs to be treated with taking thyroxine tablets regularly and that too for lifetime. There is no cure in this situation, plus she has to avoid soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, mustard, peanuts and coffee. Should consume a good deal of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits. Use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Avoid refined flour like maida and products made out of it. Exercise regularly to avoid weight gain. Thanks for the question.

I am a hypothyroid patient. I am using thyrox 125 for last one year. Now my tsh is normal i. E. 1.0. But from last one month I am feeling tingling at one side of face and head and my weight also decreased by 5kg in one month. My face and eyes are facing allergy. Lot of tiredness and when I sleep facing tremors. What is this? My physician has prescribed to reduce the dose of thyrox to100mg. Is it due to drug overdose. All my blood tests like blood sugar, kft, lft, lipid profiles r normal.

Hello your new symptoms can't be directly linked to overdose. It would be wise to check thyroid profile always as t3, t4 and tsh. Your current tsh levels are nml and not reduced beyond normal limits to suggest overdose. Many patients continue to develop new symptoms of hypothyroidism despite being on medicine and being in control. The doubt of overdose can be easily cleared by reducing the dose for a couple of weeks and rechecking levels. If your symptoms reduce, voila! if not, it only suggests that though blood reports indicate control, the disorder within the body still continues, causing new symptoms to appear. Hypothyroidism is a disorder where the thyroid cells are secreting lower than nml levels of thyroid hormones ie. T3 and t4. This lowered levels send a signal to the brain causing tsh, the controller of thyroid gland, to increase and stimulate production to meet the demand. Once the demand is met and t3 and t4 levels normalise, tsh will return back to nml. This is how the body repairs automatically when it is healthy. However, when the body's ability fails, this compensatory mechanism too fails and disorder persists. Thyroid replacement therapy, like the one you are on, keeps managing the effects of the internal disorder but doesn't do anything to correct it. And hence the lifelong need of these medicines. Only a medicine that can correct the deeper pathology, as with homeopathy, where the bodys ability to repair is restored, the disorder can be resolved. Give it a thought! meet a qualified homeopathic physician in person if interested. And yes, do not change your current dosage without consulting your doctor.
