Diabetes is a medical condition only when you are not managing your diet and lifestyle properly. Otherwise, one can lead an absolutely normal life, eat everything and still have their sugar levels in normal range. Your lifestyle plays a major role in this and then the dietary modification. If both these things are managed well, you can stay off medication without any problem.

Can we take whey protien in hypothyroidism for weight loss? Can a hypothyroid patient have a lean physique?

Can we take whey protien in hypothyroidism for weight loss? Can a hypothyroid patient have a lean physique?
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism if not well controlled (TSH between 3 to 4 mU/L), then there is a definite weight gain. Therefore, primary need is to achieve a strict TSH level control, by taking adequate amount of Levothyroxine per day. Once you are able to control hypothyroidism then it is possible to loose weight and maintain a lean body. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, if your blood sugar is in good control, all your symptoms will disappear. You should achieve fasting blood glucose closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c%<6.8. Otherwise, it is difficult to feel energetic and active enough.

How to get rid of sugar. How to control it. Wat are the precautions we have to take to decrease sugar level.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

How to get rid of sugar. How to control it. Wat are the precautions we have to take to decrease sugar level.
Mr. Lybrate-user, diabetes mellitus or commonly referred as" sugar' problem, occurs due to either lack of hormone insulin or resistance to its action seen in overweight and inactive persons or due to both the reasons. Hence, this condition can not be cured, it can only be controlled by proper treatment, diet control and regular exercise with weight control. Precautions to be taken include taking a well balanced but restricted diet that gives required calories and regular daily exercise for more than 1 hour a day, so as to maintain near normal weight. Plus consume more of green leafy vegetables, permitted fruits (100 g a day), avoid alcohol and smoking.

She is suffering from uric acid and having swelling on feet as well as fingers what's the solution for this problem?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
She is suffering from uric acid and having swelling on feet as well as fingers what's the solution for this problem?
A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed.

The failure to gain weight is not likely to to related to Thyroids. I would undertake a detailed online clinical evaluation followed by appropriate lab test to find the root cause and treat it.
