Hi, My question is to a Dentist. I have an upcoming third molar in horizontal direction at lower jaw. So it has to be extracted. My question is if the tooth is extracted at lower jaw then is it necessary to remove it's partner tooth at upper jaw? Thanks in advance.

U don't have to remove it simultaneously but over a period of time the upper teeth start receding down ward as there is no opposition for it. It may take long may 10/15 years then it gets loose on its own.

Hi lybrate-user, As a general rule we do recommend to get both upper and lower extracted in a single go. If the lower tooth has to be removed, the upper one, starts to come down and impinges on the gums, as there is no resisting force to stop that movement. Every tooth in our mouth is in its position because it has an opposing tooth. But this process of the upper tooth coming down takes months to happen, so you may choose to just do one tooth removal at a time and leave the upper one when it troubles you.
