I am aged 52 and I am diagnosed with hypothyroidism 14 years back. Using Eltroxin 125 mg. Some suggest it should be taken empty stomach while some other say it can be taken even after having coffee like beverages but not after breakfast. What is correct? Further I don't find much difference in the medication. I find same even if I don't use medicine for months. What is the actual consequences of hypothyroidism. Does it affect on behavior any way as some opine. I find myself normal and work strenuously. I feel Whatever tiredness or intolerance I exhibit is due to work pressure, while many others don't take that much responsibility and pain and stay cool. Irregularities and poor work environment also frustrates me. Though I will give no let up in my performance, I exhibit my frustration. Which people don't like. Is it due to hypothyroidism or genuine?

Thyroid medications should always be taken empty stomach, atleast 45 min to 1 hour before any food as it is a highly sensitive medicine. No doubts or confusion regarding this. You should preiodically monitor your TSH which should be kept in normal range. Untreated hypothyroidism can cause fluid retention in body, weakness fatigue cholesterol problems and even cardiac problems.
