Colonoscopy is direct visualisation of part of food pipe and part of large intestine called colon that stores the waste to be expelled out. You are suffering from irritable bowel syndrome and your doctor wants to rule out any ulcers or any other conditions which are not visible. Since it is a delicate test done by a machine, may be general anaesthetic is used so that patient is well relaxed. Sometimes if any lesion of doubtful nature is seen a piece for biopsy test is also taken during the same procedure.
