When somebody is bleeding from nose it is important to position person in sitting position with slightly leaning forwards, pinch his nostril firmly between fingers and thumb and apply icepack on head or top of the nose where it meets forehead. If you make person to lie down than the blood will trickle backwards into the mouth and than to the stomach. It won't be possible to see if bleeding is actually stopped. The sitting position doesn't apply when the patient is not fully conscious for any associated condition.
