There are various causes of pain in eyes. If it is not associated with redness and it is a chronic problem and gets more aggravated during reading or doing near work, you may have some refractive error, so go to an ophthalmologist and refract your eyes. A common problem when working on a screen or doing work for long periods is dry eye. This is because concentrated work tends to reduce the blink reflex that replenishes the tears, and the dry atmosphere and lack of fresh air adds to the problem of insufficient tears. Allowing the cornea to become dry can cause irritation and blurred and variable vision. Use some lubricating eye drops like refresh tears, use them at least 4 times a day. You do need to look at every aspect of your work environment also. Use proper lighting, don't work in dim conditions and use table and chair. Your table should be of proper height so that you don't have to bend too much. Take rest after 30 minutes for few minutes, put the tear drops and work again. Do blink intermittently. If pain in eye is associated with redness, most common cause will be conjunctivitis which may be allergic or infectious. Will start treatment empirically on the line of infection, start eye drops Vigamox 6 times a day, eye drops Genteal four times a day. However other causes of red eyes has to be ruled out like allergic, glaucoma, foreign body, uveitis dry eyes & blepharitis. Kindly consult an ophthalmologist.
