I had i.v cannulation done on the left hand (on the wrist, nerve passing down near the thumb), for antibiotic injections for 6 days, it has been more than 3 weeks after removal of the cannula. But the nerve is flat at the cannula region (for 3 cm long) from the point of insertion to the tip of needle which was inside the nerve. The nerve does not pop out just at the cannula region, it pops put normally outside 3 cm cannula range. Is it normal to have flat nerve at the region of cannulation, after removal of cannula? Or is this a matter of concern?

I am sorry to hear about your concern but will be happy to assist you. When an iv catheter penetrates a nerve, it can cause temporary or permanent damage. After sustaining an injury, a nerve will regenerate in an attempt to reconnect with the fibers it once innervated. Recovery from nerve damage may take only weeks or a year or more. Let's connect over a call so that we can discuss your concern in details and make a suitable treatment plan for you.
