I am 19 years old college going girl. My problem is that my mood changes so suddenly that even I cannot predict it. I don't know suddenly my mood changes, without any reason. I feel it difficult to cope up with this mood swings. I have done meditation and all the things. Tried and tired. WHAT COULD BE THE ACTUAL REASON BEHIND IT? AS IT EFFECTS MY LIFE A LOT. HOW MY MOOD CAN CHANGE SO IMMEDIATELY?

These switching moods are not a good sign and you must therefore visit a counselor first and if that person thinks that you need to meet with a doctor then you must. I also suggest that you take your parents along because they will be able to throw light on any past events in childhood that may have contributed to this development. I hope this was a recent phenomenon because then the possibilities for change are good. In counseling, which incidentally will be a long term intervention, you will learn of a lot of ways to cope with life and make adjustments that are essential for normal living. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. You must exercise regularly (I know you have tried this but do it consistently), eat healthily and sleep normally too. When you exercise vigorously the energy of the anger will be expelled and you will feel anger minus the force, and therefore it will be easier to manage. If your motivation and cooperation is good much can be achieved. You must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. If you are put on medication then the combination of medication with therapy must be maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns: after that it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor.
