I have been dealing with pilonidal disease for around an year and trying to avoid surgery. But whenever it is inflamed (gets inflammation) it starts to pain, get blood out, I get mild fever, body aches ad tiredness. Should I get it surgically removed? Also, if has to be removed, how to make sure it will not come back? In addition, is it possible to get pain and fever when it is inflamed? Fyi, I have shown the area to two different surgeons and both confirmed that it is pilonidal sinus.

Pilonidal sinus is a small hole or "tunnel" in the skin. It usually develops in the cleft of the buttocks where the buttocks separate. More than one hole may develop, and often these are linked by tunnels under the skin. Most people associate the word sinus with the nose, but sinuses can occur anywhere in the body. We have to look into the details of the problem. Let's have a detailed discussion to ensure proper treatment plan.
