I (aged, 69) have a bph condition. With problems of urine block and increased frequency in passing urine during night for the last more than 15 years. Managing the symptoms by allopathic medicines. As it is getting intensified, would like to go for an operation. But I have a cardiac problem with a post angioplasty condition (8 years back) and therefore not willing to go for surgery, for fear of stopping the intake of clopilet, a medicine for preventing blood clot. Can you please tell me whether it is advisable to go for a prostatic artery embolization (pae) a non-surgical operation, practiced by Dr. hospital, new delhi. How far is the success rate and the risk percentage? Is it recognised in modern treatment of prostate conditions and has good number of success stories?

Success rate and efficacy of prostatic artery embolization is inferior to surgery. If your cardiologist allows you to stop clopilet, you can still undergo surgery under a close cardiac monitoring, with a risk proportionate to your present cardiac status. Although prostatic size and urodynamic study will determine the final result. your urologist should be able to guide you on that.
