Hi Sir, What makes me wonder is if toothpicks can create slight gap between teeth then do the instruments used while scaling does the same?

There is so much difference between the two In case of tooth pick u just penetrarte the edges of gums but in Scaling we just use the ultrasonic flow of the scaler to remow debris and calculus

Hi Lybrate user, As you r using tooth pick to remove any foreign body entangled in that area, at first you r injuring the gum in that area. Pushing the material more inside so as to make it come out. Daily habit of doing this will definately result in gap in between your tooth as gum level decreases. Scaling is basically done by ultrasonic instruments thesaedays, so it hurting the gums and creating gaps can't happen. Moreover it is for very small time. Thanks.

Not at all . Instruments used for scaling can never create gap .. gaps are created due to presence of tartar / deposit on teeth .. which is not cleaned on regular basis ...it creates gaps in the gums ..moment the portion is cleaned u feel there is gap .. you just feel the actual portion of teeth that you have later when teeth are cleaned and gums heAl .. you recover from that gap as well ..
