lybrate-user, I have gone through the query and understand your concern. However, the claims made by some of the so called therapies that by taking those diabetes can be cured is is not true. This is a condition due either deficiency of insulin or due to resistance to the action of insulin. So only option or treatment is to either provide insulin, or increase its secretion or reduce the resistance to its action. Based on these premises modern treatment treats diabetes effectively. According to me the treatment mentioned has no possibility of reducing blood glucose leave alone curing it. Thanks.

For proper wound healing, two things are essential 1. Good wound care, 2. Good sugar control. Check with your doctor for adjustment of her insulin and other medication dosages, follow diet advise by him/her. Do proper wound care as advised by your doctor.

Dear lybrate-user, a breastfeeding mother with diabetes is a special situation and it'll be prudent if you visit a diet specialist who'll see your body profile and give you appropriate diet. In general avoid high calories food like sweets, fats etc. Also remember that for sugar control in pregnancy and breastfeeding period only insulin is allowed. Regards.

I am 47 years old female. Last week I checked my blood sugar. Fasting -125 PP-160. Should I start on tablets?

I am 47 years old female. Last week I checked my blood sugar. Fasting -125 PP-160. Should I start on tablets?
Hello, You are not in the diabetic range. These blood results show that you are in pre-diabeties range. Ideally, to diagnose if a patient is diabetic or not, we need to repeat the FBG and PPBG a second time atleast one week apart from the first test. So, please get the tests repeated again and also get the HbA1C done (this shows the average blood glucose over the last 3 months). Even if the next test reports come as pre-diabetes or borderline diabetes range, I would advise you to follow lifestyle modifications for 3 months and see. For pre-diabetes the management is lifestyle changes. This means 1) avoid sugary and high calorie food like sweets/bakery items/cakes/pastries etc 2) avoid fatty food 3) eat plenty of vegetables and whole grains and whole grain flour items 4) consume lot fat milk 5) exercise atleast 45 min everyday. Hope this helps you Thank you.

I am 49 years old housewife. I got tested my Thyroid on feeling fatigue and oversleeping. T3 (0.98) & T4 (7.00) are OK but TSH is 6.27. Is there need for taking any medicine or any precautions.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. TSH 6.27 mU/L, is considered as sub-clinical hypothyroidism. There is no treatment advised at this level of TSH. However, if one has troublesome symptoms of hypothyroidism then treatment may be initiated. Please get a anti-TPO antibody test done, to see if there is any autoimmune process leading to Hashimotos's Thyroiditis (HT). Because HT can also cause hypothyroidism. Thanks.

Dear lybrate-user warm greetings, weight loss with appropriate diet and regular exercises should take care of your problems. It seems like a strech pain of your fatty liver radiating to the area mentioned. For controlling uric acid - switching over to vegetarian diet, avoid bakery products, pulses and high protein content foods shall be regulated heavily. Avoid tomatoes, cabbage, carrot. More on fruits and plenty of water also helps in reduction of uric acid. Abstinence from alcohol and smoking is a must. Have a good day and healthy times ahead, please come back to me if you have any issues. Also donot forget to report the results of the advices later.

Diabetes affects all organs in the body ? Eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, In fact, from toe to hair. For diabetic control, patient and doctor should be in constant touch for regular follow up and advice. It is not as easy task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose ? SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For sugar control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner.
