Delayed periods may be due to multiple hormonal and non hormonal causes even anxiety. Wait for menses for few days, if no menses get an ultrasound done and consult a gynae doctor to prescribe you medications for withdrawal.

There is always a small possibility of ovulation as well as failed i-pill. Best is to wait for her next period. If she misses her periods best is to do a urine pregnancy test.

Hi if your cycles are regular ovulation happens 14 days prior to expected date of next menses. Lh kits are available but it may be cumbersome. So I suggest you to have daily intercourse from 10th day of menses till 20th day. Ovulation day may be unpredictable. So regular intercourse for 10 days will suffice. Hope my answer helps you. Regards.

I've got a very faint line in the urine pregnancy test. I'm not sure if I'm pregnant. If so what are the natural ways to terminate pregnancy as we are not in a position to have a baby. and what are the confirmation sign of pregnancy. My last period was on march 12 I also have an irregular period. Please guide me with the right procedure to be followed.

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Nagpur
Hello lybrate-user, I can understand your concern. Very faint line can be seen even in a negative pregnancy or very early pregnancy. Do repeat the test after 2 days even if then it is a faint line then meet a doctor as it can b a misplaced or not developing pregnancy too. As your period was about 2 months back. If you have regular cycles then by this time you should have a definite positive test. There is nothing like natural way of termination. If someone is telling so then he/she is fooling around. You should meet a gynaec personally to get abortifacient pills.

Hello, You need to get an USG done to check for foetal viability and heart beat or early placental separation. Tranexamic acid will not help but progesterone support should have been started and complete bed rest is indicated.

On 5th november, my boyfriend masturbated, wiped his hands thoroughly with tissue after an orgasm and fingered me about 20 minutes later. He said his hands were completely dry. My last period was on 18th october. Is there any chance I could be pregnant? I have irregular periods, and have been pretty stressed out for the past 2 weeks because of final exams and excessive traveling. I have some cramps and feel a bit nauseous. Also, I have not been exercising for the past month while I used to do so every day. I used to have polycystic ovaries. Thank you.

I would suggest that you get a urine re and culture done to rule out a urine infection along with a complete blood count. If you miss your periods next week then do a urine pregnancy test as well.

8 Healthy Hacks for the Hot Summer Season

8 Healthy Hacks for the Hot Summer Season

There are few things more exhausting or more irritating than the four month long Indian summer. With soaring temperatures and the sun raging outside, mangoes and lychees don't seem like much of a silver lining.

So, here are 8 health hacks that will make your summer a little better:

  1. Replace soft drinks with water: When you are out on the streets or sweating at home, a sweet fizzy drink does seem tempting but try resisting and have a glass of sparkling water instead. The preservatives and chemicals in the soft drinks do nothing to help your metabolism, which is slowed down by dehydration. Add a bit of lemon juice if only water does not appeal to you.
  2. Try yoghurt instead of ice cream: The primary difference between the two is that one contains cream and the other does not. Yoghurt is lighter and has lesser fat content. Excess fat consumption during summer actually makes you sweat more.
  3. Use honey instead of butter: Butter like cream has a heavy fat content and your metabolism (which is slower in summer to retain water in the body) takes longer to break fat down. So, ditch butter this summer and spread some honey on your crunchy breakfast toast.
  4. Stock up on cucumber: Cucumber is an underrated blessing. You can munch on them anytime you like without worrying about calorie intake or stomach aches. Rubbing some cucumber on your skin can soothe sunburns and itches.
  5. Aloe Vera can work wonders: You must have heard about the boon that aloe vera is when it comes to skincare. It is the best solution to nasty sunburns, especially aloe vera gel frozen in small Ziploc bags, can heal burns and prevent skin peeling and chaffing.
  6. Lower the pH value of your skin: Application of citrus fruit juices like apples and lemons or vinegar can lower the pH value of our skin and prevent the multiplication of bacteria. This keeps both sweat and body odor away much more effectively than deodorants.
  7. Make small sacrifices in terms of diet: Some of your favorite things like coffee, alcohol, spicy food, sugar and cigarettes are best consumed minimally in summer because they all aggravate the functioning of the apocrine glands and cause sweat and body odor.
  8. Shower before you workout: One of the good things about summer might be that you have an excuse to skip work out. But, if you start with a cold shower or a swim, or keep a cold, wet towel round your neck, workout can be surprisingly refreshing. You can do the same after your workout,  it lowers the body temperature and cooling the muscles can heal soreness very quickly.

Am 29 weeks pregnant. My placenta position is anterior grade 2.may I expect normal delivery or c-section?

Am 29 weeks pregnant. My placenta position is anterior grade 2.may I expect normal delivery or c-section?
It is considered as anterior if the baby is facing you back. This is a better position than any other for babies because it allows them to move easily through your pelvis. Placenta of Grade 2 maturity is a good news actually because it means you will have a normal delivery. Fundal height is the size of your tummy using a tape measure to check if you are meting the right measurement with the age of your baby before the gestation. Though it`s a good thing you still have to be careful because bleeding might happen, you have to be watchful with your actions and take your iron supplements as prescribed by the doctor.

Im lactating. I thought I was pregnant so I took the home pregnancy test and it came out negative.
As long as you are lactating you may not get period at all which is due to hormonal suppression. However if you do indulge in sex make sure you use condoms to avoid an unwanted pregnancy..

Why Breast Cancer is No 1 Cancer in India? + How To Avoid it

MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS

Why Breast Cancer is No 1 Cancer in India? + How To Avoid it
Why breast cancer is no 1 cancer in india? + how to avoid it

Breast cancer is on the rise in india. Surveys show that every 4 out of 5 indian women suffer from an advanced stage of breast cancer by the time they get themselves examined at the hospital. Urban women are at two times more risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer than rural women. Being overweight, eating unhealthy food, and consuming excessive alcohol or tobacco are some of causes that can make you susceptible to this disease.

How you can avoid breast cancer by being aware.

- dimpling of the skin around the breast or a lump in the breast is the first sign that you should keep an eye out for.
- apart from self-examining your breasts every month for a lump, going for a mammography (an x-ray of the breast) is vital for early detection of the problem.
- consult a gynaecologist before going for the test as its frequency depends on your age and risk factor. About 80-90% of tumours can be traced through this screening.

Breast cancer may run in family. If there is no family history of breast cancer, you start doing mammogram at 40 yrs of age but if there is a family history you start even earlier as advised by your gynaecologist.

Hello, any bleeding in pregnancy is an alarm. This may be a threatened miscarriage, please get an urgent transvaginal ultrasound done to rule out and placental separation or retroplacental clot.
