My father has 90% blockage in one vein. It is detected by angiography done 3 days ago. Now I am in doubt that which process should we adopt angioplasty or bypass. And second thing what are merit or demerit in both.

One blockage can be cleared by baloon therapy(angiography) Merits are that there is no need to do heart surgery + it serves as a warning for rest of life to take care of heart by eating well , exercise and taking stress in your stride with no negative feelings. Good Luck. Bypass surgery should be done if there are Diffuse Blockages all over the heart / blockages are more than 2 , because getting fitted with more stent is not beneficial in the long run compared to one time heart surgery , Aftercare after 2 months is same in both.

Try to find out from your doctor whether BP tablets you are taking is cause. Change may be necessary. Otherwise go for a check up by a Consulting Physician to find out exact cause and if any steps are to be taken Anyway paulse rate is not too low.

Hello dear patient. High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain.garlic,. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

Sir /Madam I am suffering for left side chest pain for last one year please give me any suggestions.

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
Sir /Madam I am suffering for left side chest pain for last one year please give me any suggestions.
Chest pain in a young patient like yourself could be musculoskeletal or gastric in best case scenario or cardiac in worst case. So some practical steps to eliminate possibilities begins with knowing whether this pain is associated with breathless, sweating or palpitations (increased heart rate) and especially increases on high state of activity whether physical or emotional. If this is the case then possibility of cardiac related event becomes very important and you need further work up without delay. However if your chest pain is movement related or enhanced with shoulder girdle movement along with local pain on pressing the chest wall then in that case musculoskeletal pain is first possibility to consider. Also, if this chest pain is central and is associated with meals or indigestion or constipation then keep acidity on high alert and start taking anti acidity medicines to counter this gastric problem. Localisation in case of chest pain is a wrong methodology. By localisation I mean the attribution of pain to a organ in chest. Chest pains are very treacherous types and merely localisation to left side does not mean that it is serious problem. Hope this helps.

Dear lybrate-user, high bp may or may not produce symptoms. A significant proportion of pt with high bp live with it without knowing its presence in their body. A very large proportion in young hypertensive pt, hypertension is secondary to certain cause like hormone tumor, kidney disease, anxiety etc. Some of those causes are treatable so we need to know whether high bp is because of itself or due to anxiety or due to certain other disease. Treatment will depend upon the root cause. Life style modification should be given utmost priority. Low salt low calorie diet, smoking cessation will be given priority. Regular exercise, weight reduction, meditation & stress management will help a lot.

Hi lybrate-user, Medication is often prescribed for hypertension. You can also help control it with simple natural remedies. Here are some of the home remedies which will help you prevent high blood pressure: 1. Lemons: Lemons help keep blood vessels soft and pliable and by removing any rigidity, high blood pressure will be reduced. In addition, you can help lower your chance of heart failure by consuming lemon juice regularly, due to its vitamin C content. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps neutralize the harmful effects of free radicals. Simply drink a cup of warm water with the juice from half a lemon added to it each morning on an empty stomach. For best results, do not add salt or sugar. 2. Watermelon Seeds: Grind equal quantities of dried watermelon seeds and poppy seeds (khus khus). Take one teaspoon of this mixture in the morning on an empty stomach and again in the evening. Alternatively, add two teaspoons of gently crushed, dried watermelon seeds to one cup of boiled water. Steep it for about an hour, then strain it. Take four tablespoons of this water at regular intervals throughout the day. 3. Garlic: Eat one or two crushed garlic cloves daily. You can simply crush them with your hands. Crushing garlic cloves creates hydrogen sulfide, a compound that promotes good blood flow, removes gas and reduces the pressure on the heart. If you do not like eating raw garlic or if it causes a burning sensation, then take it along with a cup of milk. You can also mix five or six drops of garlic juice in four teaspoons of water and take it twice a day. 4. Banana: Bananas are one fruit that people with high blood pressure can eat regularly to control it. Bananas are a rich source of potassium, which lessens the effect of sodium. So, try to eat one or two bananas daily. Along with bananas, you can try dried apricots, raisins, currants, orange juice, spinach, zucchini, baked sweet potatoes, can notaloupe, and winter squash. 5. Celery: The high level of the phytochemical 3-N-butylphthalide present in celery greatly helps control high blood pressure. Phthalides help relax the muscles in and around arterial walls, thereby creating more space and allowing the blood to flow in without difficulty. At the same time, it can help reduce the stress hormones that constrict blood vessels, which contributes to high blood pressure. Try to eat one stalk of celery along with a glass of water daily. If you prefer, you can munch on celery throughout the day. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
