Shigellosis is a bacterial disease transmitted through food via the oral-fecal route. The responsible microbe is found in water polluted by human feces. Symptoms manifest as stomach aches, fever and blood or pus in stools. It is treated with compensatory fluids and antibiotics. Medications may be administered orally or intravenously.
