Omphalocele is an abnormal development of abdominal organs outside the abdomen where they remain visible inside a sac made of tissues. It occurs inside the mother’s womb due to incomplete closure of the abdominal wall. Usually the belly button acts as a leak and this is effectively corrected now with the required surgery. But it may be a cause for further problems like heart disease, diaphragmatic hernia and genetic defects.
HOW IS OMPHALOCELE DIAGNOSED?
Prenatal ultrasound reveals the presence of Omphalocele in the womb.
