Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a disorder which causes blockage of the upper pulmonary passageways while sleeping. This leads to sporadic sleep disturbances caused by lack of oxygen circulation to the lungs. Muscles in the throat tend to stop working while the apnea afflicted person is asleep which could prove to be dangerous if it lasts for an abnormally long time. Breathing is cut off and then revived by gasps. This naturally awakens a person from sleep at periodic intervals and leads to lethargy during day.
