Empyema Thoracis is a common respiratory disease which makes breathing difficult for a person. The disease happens when there is accumulation of pus in the area between the lungs and the inner surface of the chest wall known as the pleural space. The potential signs of the disease are: sweating, fever, dry cough, shortness of breath, headache, loss of appetite and excessive chest pain. The major causes for having the disorder are: diabetes, alcoholism, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and a weakened immune system.
HOW IS EMPYEMA THORACIS DIAGNOSED?
The disorder usually goes through 3 stages viz. Acute, Middle and Chronic stages.
