Abetalipoproteinemia is a genetic disorder that prevents the body to absorb certain vitamins and dietary fats. The symptoms are usually delayed growth and slurred speech. It is a rare disorder, which can impair the function of the nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. A diet rich in vitamin A, E, K and D is advisable. This disorder is known by multiple names, which are apolipoprotein B deficiency, Bassen-Kornzweig syndrome or acanthocytosis.
