Benefits of yoga for skin problems

The largest organ in the body with respect to surface area and weight is the skin. It serves as insulation for the body. There are several irritants which when comes in the contact of the skin lead to the development of various skin problems. Some of the causes of skin problem include imbalanced hormones, free radicals, sensitivity to the sun and toxins. Yoga provides a one-stop natural solution for alleviating all the problems of the skin. There are various simple asanas in yoga that help in attaining the desired results in skin problems.

Yoga improves the blood circulation in the neck, face, and head which helps in improving the health of the skin. Due to improved blood circulation fresh oxygenated blood reaches the face which makes the skin healthy. Through yoga, the facial muscles also get relaxed leading to balancing of the hormones. Yoga removes the toxins and eliminates the free radicals which may be causing skin problems. The blockage on the skin also gets cleared through yoga thereby helping the skin to breathe and feel healthy. Yoga makes the skin rejuvenated and refreshed. Given below are some of the asanas in yoga that help in alleviating the skin problems.

Standing Forward Bend

Stand straight and start bending the upper body downward. Bend so far that your nose is aligned with your knees. You can also use your hands to grab onto the back of the legs for extra support. Hold this pose for a while and breathe deeply. This posture will help maximize the blood circulation and rejuvenate the skin.

Triangle Pose

Stand straight and raise both hands, so that they are parallel to the ground. Now turn the right leg at a 45 degree angle and the left foot at a 90 degree angle. Now bend over and touch your right leg with the right hand. Repeat the entire procedure for the other leg and touch it with the left hand. This posture helps with blood circulation and removes the toxins from the skin.

Cobra Pose

Start by lying on your stomach and keep your legs straight. Place your elbows on the ground at shoulder width. Now raise your upper body off the floor, while keeping the elbows grounded. Try to get into such a position that the head and neck is perpendicular to your feet. This is great for circulation regulation and also maintaining hormonal balance, thus counteracting some skin conditions, such as acne and rosacea.

Wind Relieving Pose

This is an easy posture, which can be performed by almost anyone. Lie on your back and slowly fold the legs toward your chest. Hug the knees with your hands and lift your head. Your nose should be between the two knees. Hold this pose for a few seconds and breathe. Such a posture helps deal with improper digestion and also improves the circulation.

Legs Up The Wall

Sit across a wall and use it to support the legs as you lift it up. Ensure that the legs are straight. Use your hands to support the hips. Hold this pose and breath normally. This posture increases oxygen supply to the face.

Yoga undoubtedly alleviates the problems which are plaguing the skin. The speed of recovery, however, can be improved if a person consumes a healthy diet that helps in maintaining the health of the skin. There are certain food products which when added to the diet help in improving the health of the skin. Adding food rich in omega-3 fatty acids like herring can prove to be beneficial as omega-3 keeps the skin supple, moisturized and thick. Omega-3 rich foods also make the skin less sensitive to the sun. Incorporating foods rich in vitamin E like hazelnut helps the skin against the damage from the free radicals.

Avocado, when incorporated in the diet, provides rich dividends in improving skin health. Broccoli is one food products whose health benefits seem to be unlimited. It a very good source of various vitamins and minerals which not only prevents the skin from cancer but it also protects from sunburn. Besides these changes in the diet if a person has is under medical treatment then he/she must continue with their oral or topical medicines.
