Dear Lybrateuser,
- give rest to limb
- apply pain relief gel three times a day
- take pain relief tablet, brufen, 1 tablet three times a day after meals
- apply ice pack for 5-10 min on affected area to reduce pain
- get x-ray of affected area done to rule out any bony problem.

It is difficult to comment on the likely diagnosis based on the little history you have provided but certainly as the problem is not resolving it warrants further investigation. I would suggest revisiting the previous doctor to see if he can explain the likely source of your problem and offer any alternative solutions. If that does not resolve th eisseus then you may consider visiting a pain specialist locally.
