It could be any number of causes from simple infection to tb to any cancer. (though cancer would be the last option.) in india, tb is much more common. Please show it to a surgeon. He may start you on antibiotics if simple infection is suspected or take a biopsy or remove the whole node for pathology examination and that will help plan further treatment if other diseases are suspected.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
Thyroid function test detects hormonal changes. But whether there is a nodule or cyst etc is not detected. For that ultrasonography of the gland is required. Further if any nodule / nodules detected, then in some cases ultrasonography guided FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) may be required. Thanks.

The term “hypoechoic” refers to the way a nodule looks on an ultrasound, also called a sonogram. Ultrasound machines produce sound waves that penetrate your body, bouncing off tissues, bones, muscles, and other substances. Most thyroid nodules are benign, which means they aren’t cancerous. About 2 or 3 in 20 are malignant, or cancerous.

Vocal abuse can result in the formation of bumps on your vocal cords (vocal nodules) . You will need to see an ENT specialist for a laryngoscopy.
