The large intestine, also known as the large bowel or colon, is the last part of the gastrointestinal tract and the digestive system. The function of the large intestine is to remove waste from the body through the anus and to absorb water. The appendix is found in the lower right abdomen, with one end attached to the large intestine or caecum.
