You can go for ultrasound therapy which will be effective for few days if you find a local physiotherapist near your place. Initially you can keep ice in the painful area which will help you to get reduced with the inflammation. You need to wear proper foot wear for complete weight bearing and also not to put weight on the foot unnecessarily.

The cast is kept to keep the muscles and bone to heal from the sprain and to avoid any jerk and pressure to muscles which can disrupt the healing.

It is adviced to keep the plaster as suggested by the doc, if you remove it then the injury wont be healed and there will be pain.

After removing of cast plaster you need to apply ice pack twice a day to remive sitffness and may be required to do few exercises for free movement of the foot.
