Hello-
hypothyroidism reveals itself in a very gradual manner. Low thyroid symptoms are very subtle and are often similar to the ones of aging. Low thyroid levels affect different parts of the body in different ways. Patients more often reporting loss of libido are those with hypothyroidism.
The good news is that when thyroid hormone imbalances are corrected, the result is a normalizing of all bodily functions, including the sex drive.

Mr. Lybrate-user, hypothyroidism is due to deficiency of thyroxine hormone produced by thyroid gland. Therefore, treatment is to a supplement of that hormone as thyroxine tablets daily. Dose depends on body weight, tsh level and t4 level. Once treatment is begun, most symptoms will be in control. Thanks.

lybrate-user, If you are tolerating the drug, then there is absolutely no problem. It is just like the natural hormone secreted by thyroid gland. In hypothyroidism there is almost nil production of this hormone, so it has to be supplemented daily for lifetime. When you are on treatment it is essential that TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all the symptoms are well controlled. So please do check TSH level periodically. Thanks.

Thanks for the query.
TSH 8.16 mU/L, is considered as sub-clinical hypothyroidism, there is no treatment advocated at this level. However, if there are troublesome symptoms present then treatment can be initiated. If treatment is advocated it is better to take the whole tablet as half tablet is unlikely to give specific quantity. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
I have gone through the details given and learn that you are on treatment for hypothyroidism. But there is no mention of levels of T3, T4 & TSH. To be free from symptoms of hypothyroidism TSH should be around 3 to 4 mU/L. As regards whitening of the beard, that is not related to hypothyroidism. That is an inherent problem related to lack of melanin in the hair follicle. There is no medication for this. Thanks.
