Living in a diverse nation has blessed us with lot of joy and festivals. These occasions are meant for outmost fun and laughter with our closed ones. Holi is one such festival in our country. The festival of color has its own cultural importance of good winning over bad. The festival is celebrated all over the country by putting colors on each other and wishing for each other's goodwill. The most colorful festival demands some prior holi skin & hair care routines before smearing ourselves with all the colors. Not everyone has the access and knowledge of using chemical free herbal colors. But the lifestyle of people doesn’t allow to roam around with the holi stains on as it looks embarrassing and awkward. 

So one needs to be prepared in advance to enjoy the festival fully, without worrying about their skin healths. The most common concern of people after covering themselves with colors is how to remove holi color from the face and how to take care of hair. The chemically treated colors are very harmful as well as rigid in nature and don’t come off easily.   • Washing off all the extra colour from the hair with cold  water.

DIY’s are the best chemical free option to opt in order to take care of your skin and hair from all those harsh holi colours. These are not only chemical free, affordable and eco friendly but also can be customized according to your skin types. Making a nourishing face mask or shampoo and conditioner will neither cause a pinch in your pockets nor will take alot of time.

Some of the affordable DIY options for how to remove holi colour from the face are given below:

  • Using a mixture of sugar, honey and lemon as a face scrub. This wonderful face mask act as a scrub as well as a moisturizer in order to give an instant result. Sugar acts as a natural scrub and lemon acts as a bleaching agent to remove any kind of unwanted colours. Honey is an excellent moisturizer.
  • A mixture of multani mitti(Fuller’s Earth) and besan ( Gram flour) taken in equal proportion acts as an great cleanser. All the DIY’s are customizable according to one’s skin type. You can add anything that suits your skin and have a  wonderful self pampering time.
  • Aloe vera and lemon can also be used as a face pack as well as a moisturizer to get an instant result.
  • Rice flour acts as an excellent scrub. You can mix it with rose water and gently scrub off the colors.
  • Another great cleanser is milk mixed with orange peel powder as it increases the collagen production within the skin to prevent any discolouration. You can replace milk with curd too.
  • To remove holi colour from the face, a simple mixture of curd, turmeric and besan can also give a commendable results.

How to Take Care of Hair:

  • You can use a herbal shampoo to wash off the colour. The best herbal shampoo you can make at home is by soaking reetha, shikakai and amla overnight and grinding it to a paste. This can remove all the unwanted dirt as well as excess colour from your hair.
  • In order to retain the hydration in the hair, some deep conditioning hair mask can be applied to it. A mixture of almond oil, curd and baking soda works as an wonderful hair mask. You can leave the mask for 40-45 minutes and can apply coconut oil as the roots for more moisture boost. Shampoo afterwards.
  • Soak methi overnight and grind to a paste. Apply it to the hair and leave it for half and hour. Wash it off with a mild shampoo.
  • Honey and cinnamon powder also wonderfully nourishes the hair.

Always wash your hair and face with cold water to remove holi colour as hot water can strip off further nourishment. Avoid any kind of chemical treatments for your skin and hair and give it a break to let it breathe for few days.
