Hair Care - Treatment, Procedure And Side Effects

What is the treatment?

Hair and scalp health is very important in order to maintain hair hygiene and quality. A number of factors are responsible for hair loss and damage. They include- environmental issues like pollution and changing weather, genes, illness, too much chemical use and poor blood circulation to the scalp. Excessive stress and fast lifestyle can also result in hair fall and bad hair quality.

Today, there are a number of hair care treatments that are easily available to individuals. These treatment plans are carefully designed so that they effectively restore hair health and add shine as well as volume to damaged and dying hair. Moreover, these treatments improve scalp health as well.

Hair care treatments are generally holistic and include diet changes as well as the use of supplements and hair care products to ensure quality hair. Hair and scalp specialists should be consulted before opting for a certain type of hair care treatment.

How is the treatment done?

Generally, all types of hair treatment follow 3 basic steps. It initially involves finding the specific causes of hair loss and damage. Thus, when you go to a hair specialist, he will first examine your hair and scalp and enquire about your lifestyle and various hair related problems you face. Depending on the information you provide and the following examination - causes of hair loss and damage are identified.

The next step is to advise and provide the best treatment option, on the basis of the causes. The treatment may include the use of special shampoos and conditioners, specific diet changes, an increase of fluid intake, the prescription of hair supplements and even hair loss medication. The specialist’s advice should be strictly followed for best results.

The third step involves maintenance and constant monitoring of the treatment. The Certain alteration may be recommended on the basis of the results of the hair care treatment.

But these side effects are temporary and disappear fast.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

Post-treatment guidelines for hair care generally involve the maintenance of hair quality and volume by following the recommended diet and improving one’s lifestyle. Suggested hair products should also be used on a regular basis.

Summer Hair Care

Summer, though really a great time to be outdoors, is also a time to be extra caring towards your hair. Like sun damages your skin, it also damages your hair as well.

Excessive exposure to the sun can cause weak, dry, brittle hair and also more susceptible to split ends. Sweat and dust contributed by summers increase hair problems like dandruff, split ends, frizziness and increased hair fall, etc.

Tips to keep your hair healthy and shiny in summers:

  • Drink plenty of water. Your hair and your skin will benefit immensely from the amount of water and extra fluids that you have. So opt for cooling liquids that will help you keep your hair healthy and hydrated.
  • Eat a healthy diet for good health of your hair. Include omega-3 (fish, walnut, flax seeds, olive oil etc),iron (e.g dark green vegetables like spinach), Vitamin C (e.g citrus fruits like kiwi, orange, alma etc), proteins (e.g lean chicken, fish, egg, curd, skimmed milk, sprouts etc), zinc (e.g nuts) , vitamin A (e.g carrots) in diet.
  • It is essential you cover your hair with a hat or a scarf during summers. This protects it from the harmful UV rays and it also helps in retaining moisture.
  • Tight hairstyles can be damaging because they tend to pull and tear hair, especially if your hair is dry from the summer heat. Hence put your hair up in loose, comfortable styles.
  • Use a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush.
  • Use a mild shampoo and always dilute the shampoo with an equal quantity of water and then apply to the slap.
  • Hair scalp sweats more during summer and it may lead to dandruff. This might make you feel like you have a dirty scalp, making you want to wash your hair every day. But washing hair daily will strip your hair of its natural oils. Therefore, wash your hair on every 2 days or alternate days and not on every day.
  • Splint ends forming is higher in summer hence trim your hair.
  • Oil your hair twice a week as it is a good way to get healthy and shiny hair.
  • Exercise daily. Yoga or simple exercise like walking will helps in maintaining good health and proper blood circulation which will result in better hair.
  • If you’re the type of person who loves swimming in summers then you should wet your hair before you enter the pool. This way it will absorb lesser chlorine.
  • Avoid excessive dry heat, such as that from blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons.
  • Don’t dry your hair with blow dryer.
  • Avoid any sort of hair treatments. Keep straightening, curling or any other treatments for later.
  • Avoid eating refined flours, fried, sugary, and processed and junk food.

Long And Healthy Hair - Tips Recommended By Doctor!

We all desire for long, voluminous, lustrous hair and often crib about our hair not growing long enough or taking ample time to grow. But, we tend to forget that the secret behind beautiful hair is healthy hair. To maintain a long and healthy hair you must follow a rigorous regime. The following are a few tips to keep your hair long and healthy.

  1. Get to know your hair- This is the primary step to attain your goal of having a long and beautiful hair. Knowing your hair type (dry or oily; fizzy or straight etc.) and figuring out a meticulous hair care routine is of utmost importance. You may also consider professional help.
  2. Choose the correct products- This step needs attention. Make sure you do not get lured by advertisements. Choose products that suit your hair type. Once again for this step too, if you are unable to decide for yourself, do seek professional help.
  3. Learn to clean your hair in a proper manner- Message the shampoo on your scalp and rinse it properly with sufficient water. Remember to use a conditioner every time after applying shampoo, as it helps to seal the hair cuticles and restore protein and lipids. Use a towel gently to dry your hair.
  4. Pamper your hair with an oil message at regular intervals- Massaging your hair with oil will help it to grow faster. It also prevents your hair from dryness and being frizzy. You may also consider massaging your hair with hot oils the night before a shampoo.

This Holi Let's Paint The Town Red While Keeping Yourself Safe

This Holi Let's Paint The Town Red While Keeping Yourself Safe

It's the month of Phagun again and time to prepare for the most colourful and vibrant festival of India - Holi. As the festive cheer spreads and people get ready to paint the town red with colours, dance to rocking beats at Holi bashes, and gorge on Gujiya and Thandaai, it’s good to remember that you need to play it safely and naturally. The biggest reason for this is the synthetic agents, which are used to make the colours of Holi. What used to be a festival played with flowers, natural dyes and herbs have now transformed into a celebration of colours made from chemicals that are harmful for our body.

Apart from the allergies to the skin, there is also the risk of increased blood pressure after the Holi festivities due to the high intake of bhaang, the official Holi drink. To avoid the harmful effects of such materials used during the festival, here are some must-follow health tips for you.

Tips to care for your skin

  1. Use organic colours: Skin is the most sensitive body part and synthetic colours are a big no-no for it, as they can lead to rashes and other skin allergies. Therefore, it is advisable that you opt for organic colours, considering they are not only chemical free but are made from natural ingredients. Organic colours are safe for children too, as they are softer on the skin and easy to wash off. It is crucial that you protect kids from synthetic colours as they contain lead oxide, mercury sulphide and aluminium bromide, chemicals which not only damage the skin but can also cause various health issues.
  2. Skin and sun protection: To avoid any kind of damage to the skin from colours, apply a good amount of Vaseline, any other petroleum jelly or mustard oil to your skin. You can also apply this to your child’s skin as it is completely safe for their sensitive skin. When playing outdoors, opt for a waterproof sunscreen to protect your skin against sun damage.
  3. Choose the right clothes: Wear long pants and full-sleeved shirts. This will help you stay safe from the harmful effects of colours.

Tips to care for your hair

  1. Oil your hair: You can apply a generous amount of oil to your hair, this will not only moisturize your hair but also safeguard the scalp and hair from the chemicals in the colours.
  2. Cover your hair: Tie a ponytail and cover your hair with a shower cap to prevent your hair from dreadful damage. For a trendy look, you can also tie a bandana over your hair and safeguard them at the same time.

Tips to care for your eyes

  1. Wear sunglasses: Synthetic or organic, colours can be harsh on your eyes. You can protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses as they will help in preventing your eyes against any sort of damage. If your eyes come in contact with the colour, rinse them immediately to avoid infections.
  2. Moisturize around the eyes: Applying a good cream around your eyes will shield them from getting the colour into your eyes.
  3. Avoid wearing contact lenses: You should refrain from wearing contact lenses while playing Holi. In case you cannot do without them, wear the eyeglasses.
  4. Use rose water: Rose water is known for its antiseptic and antibacterial properties and can do a great job in removing colour from the eyes. It can also be used to reduce irritation cause by the chemicals present in the colours.

Other health tips

  1. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water before, during and after the festivities. Staying hydrated will not only keep you energetic but will also prevent your skin against the absorption of harmful chemicals. Drinking fluids will also ensure that all the toxins are flushed out of the body.
  2. Check your sweets for purity: Adulteration is at all-time high during the festive season. Therefore, make sure you buy your sweets from a reputed brand. In case, you are preparing your own sweets, buy your ingredients from a reputed shop, especially in case of products like khoya or if you can you even make that at home.
  3. Keep your hands clean: Keeping your hands clean during the festivities can be a daunting task but since the colours used during Holi come as a fine powder and can easily get mixed with food, they can lead to different health problems. Make arrangements for snacks and drinks away from the festivity area. Make sure you wash your hands every time you touch the food.
  4. Preventing asthma attacks: If you are an asthmatic patient, you must avoid playing with dry colours as they can aggravate breathing problems. The particles can enter your lungs and trigger an asthma attack. Asthmatic patients are also advised to carry inhalers, in order to avoid complications.

Apart from the above mentioned problems, these synthetic colors can also cause health problems like nausea, headache and vomiting in many people. Follow these tips and enjoy the festival to the fullest, while steering clear of all the harmful effects. So, forget all your worries and storm in the riot of colours. Be safe and be healthy! Have a great Holi!
