Mr. Lybrate-user, to control t2 dm you have to start treatment with proper drugs like either oral anti diabetics or insulin or both together depending upon severity of the sugar levels. With out proper modern drugs there is no way of controlling diabetes.

Bhuvanaji, if your mother diabetes and if it has been detected late in life, then it is most likely to t2 dm. This is a familial condition, meaning if parents have it, then children are likely to get it. But it is also a preventable disease. symptoms of diabetes are incrased thirst, increased appetite, increased urination , loss of weight, blurring of vision, skin infections, leg cramps andmany more. There are no mentioned stages but for your understanding Stage 1 when it is controlled by diet and exercise.
