Dear Lybrate user
Yes therapy has provided great results in any kind of addiction. Addiction is psychological and thus psychotherapy is supposed to be taken. I have had many clients who have got rid off their addiction. As there are some causes for any addiction and until and unless those causes are not resolved the addiction will not go away. Thats the reason many people get addicted again after they come back from deaddiction centers.
You can contact me for more information.

You have to control your urge and there are various distraction techniques for that.
Avoid triggers
urges for tobacco are likely to be strongest in the situations where you smoked or chewed tobacco most often, such as at parties or bars, or while feeling stressed or sipping coffee. Identify your trigger situations and have a plan in place to avoid them entirely or get through them without using tobacco.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Smoking 3 cigarettes daily or 5 for that matter is no addiction. I sincerely feel you can simply quit smoking with your will power. There are many other methods like deaddiction therapy. But nothing works better than will power. I suggest online motivation counselling. Take care.

Dear user. I can understand. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Smoking can affect your mouth, throat, lungs, heart, stomach and brain in many ways. Cancer is one among the potential diseases smoking can cause. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative for cigarettes. But still...more

Many methods are available for you to quit smoking. But, nothing is as effective as will power. You need to have strong will power. To reduce craving on stopping cigarete, you can use nicotine gum, lozenges, patch etc. I may provide counseling and methods to prevent relapse through telephone counseling. Let me know if you are willing. Take care.

That is the way to give up smoking anyway: suddenly and immediately. The effects will be just great but depending on the amount of cigarettes he smokes, there will be a withdrawal reaction. That can be countered by some substitution methods that are useful and eases the withdrawal. His decision to want to quit is very welcome and you must do all you can to encourage and support him. Here are the ways to stop the smoking: first of all it is not easy because there is a lot of conditioning associat...more

Deal with the pressure that you have mentioned with a counselor and it will make it easier. The habit can be very difficult to halt because of the many conditions attached to smoking. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary. The nicotine in...more

Sure. You have made an excellent decision and you must stick to it at all costs. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail...more
