Organ toxicities may be more problematic in the elderly, but in most tumours, the efficacy of chemotherapy is not age dependent. Chemotherapy, where indicated for advanced cancer, can therefore be safely and effectively used in selected elderly patients. Managing advanced cancer in the elderly is an increasing problem.

Cancers of gi tract are difficult to cure but not impossible to cure. According to the available data after being diagnosed with stomach cancer, 31.5% of people survive five years or more. If that has to be taken as a benchmark his chances are 1 out of 3. I wouldn't be dishearted if I have as much chance of surviving something. Dear user, it is not necessary that only exposure to smoke causes lung cancer. There have been cases where people who are not exposed to smoke or cigarettes in any form but they have lung cancer. After 2–5 years: the risk of stroke drops to that of someone who does not smoke, according to the cdc. After 5–15 years: the risk of mouth, throat, esophagus, and bladder cancer is reduced by half. After 10 years: the risk of lung cancer and bladder cancer is half that of someone who currently smokes.

Yes. This may happen in some cases. Typically after 6 cycles of double agent chemotherapy we keep patient on maintainance therapy with pemetrexed till disease progression. Else pt will need to be put on 2 nd line chemotherapy or immunotherapy. Other options include oral targeted therapy if she is positive for either of mutations like egfr, alk, ros 1, met, braf which can be checked on biopsy tissue.
