Hi Lybrate user kindly need to do mri of shoulder joint to make diagnosis of soft tissue injury, treatment will depend on that.
Note:- self assess yours condition is your shoulder pain goes from shoulder to elbow or shoulder pain goes from shoulder to wrist, if it goes till elbow then it might be due to shoulder injury or if pain goes from shoulder to wrist / hand then it might be due to cervical nerve compression/ cervical radiculopathy.

•watch your form. Exercising incorrectly can also cause or worsen shoulder problems.
•warm up, even before deep stretching. Light shoulder rolls, gentle movements, or even a warm shower are all ways to warm up your muscles before exerc...more

1.pendulum stretch do this exercise first. Relax your shoulders. Stand and lean over slightly, allowing the affected arm to hang down. Swing the arm in a small circle — about a foot in diameter. Perform 10 revolutions in each direction, once a day. As your symptoms improve, increase the diameter of your swing, but never force it. When you're ready for more, increase the stretch by holding a light weight (three to five pounds) in the swinging arm.

One may need to be sure about the level of injury to know if simple stretch could help it or if should need...more
