As they initially said, you can give bed rest a try for six weeks. She should not sit without support for at least six weeks. She also has associated problems of post-chemotherapy pain, this can be treated symptomatically. If you send X-rays one can give proper opinion. But one has to examine the patient to give final opinion.

The symptoms described by you and the MRI report corelate. It means that you have significant disc problem. It is considered as a strong indicator of surgery if you have weakness of muscle. its good to hear that you see the right & effective results of physiotherapy treatment.As you have well known about erb's palsy now.it takes time to strength up the weak muscle which have already partial paralized or total wasting of muscle. My advice is to continue physiotherapy untill you got successful results.

Hello! As per your issue. First clear your mind that lifting heavy weight is always a cause of back issue.
Sometimes what happen is gradually bones (here I mean for spine) getting degradation but they don't show any sign and symptoms.
But when the degeneration is set ,then they start showing symptoms! So.
First - get to know that is there are any previous minor issue in back.
Second - check whether pain is in back only or its moving down in one leg or both legs.
