A pre workout gives you energy to do intense and hard workout. It acts as a fuel for your body while working out.

Whey protein is a post workout thing that should be consumed immediately after workout to help your body get enough protein for building muscles or grow your body in shape and size.

There is no side effect of pre or post workout things.

Hye Thanks for the query. Taking whey will not solve your VitaminB12 deficiency. Also just because you go to the gym you don't need to take protein supplements. Protein rich diet is good enough. Supplementation with protein is only done if you are into serious training and your workout is intense.
Vitamin B-12 is mostly available only in animal foods: meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy products. You can also get this important nutrient in some nutritional yeasts, as well as from fortified ...more

Dear Lybrateuser, - Whey protein is generally safe & does not have side effects if taken in appropriate dose
- higher doses can cause side effects like increased bowel movements, thirst, cramps, weakness, tiredness, bloating, nausea & loss of appetite
- consumption will depend on your other sources of protein intake, level of activity & the protein content of the brand per gram of powder, normal protein requirement of the body per day is about 1gm/ kg of body weight.

Try to avoid foods with artificial colours flavours and preservatives to improve your Thyroid function. If you are able to procure such a whey protein powder then you can very well take it. Otherwise, consult your gym instructor to advise natural sources of protein. It will help you. But remember one thing that the Thyroid medications have to be taken empty stomach and keep a gap of at least 45 min between your medication & any other things like tea, coffee or any food items.

It is useful for muscle building. But it is not necessary that you need it because vegetarians can get the protein they need form pulses, dals etc (unless you want to be a body builder)

Protein suppl will not help unless you correct your overall food intake. To reduce weight avoid eating outside & packed food. Eat healthy natural food like fruits, vegetables, sprouts, nuts & seeds. Have lower intake of sugar, oil, salt & maida. Do 30 mins of strength exercise in morning.
