If the complaints are so severe as to undergo a surgery and the patient has been evaluated by a spine surgeon and he agrees that the surgery would help in resolving the symptoms, then it is obviously worth considering a surgery.

You can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. The best option is to start physiotherapy treatment for posture correction and pain relief.
As in this condition the spine is losing its curve and is bending forward which can cause pain in maintaining simple but important postures like sitting or standing.
