Facelift - Look Years Younger With It!

Facelift - Look Years Younger With It!

Age is really nothing but a number. The best thing about age is to embrace it. However, not everybody can jovially accept the bodily changes that come with age, especially the wrinkles, the sagging skin and the not-so-wanted curves of the face. So are you tired of using a hundred different age-renewal creams?

Tired of the false promises from brands claiming their products would turn back time? Tired of putting heavy makeup to hide those wrinkles? Guess what? There is a long-term solution to these problems. Consult an awesome cosmetic surgeon and get a facelift. Since this is a life-changing decision, you must know about the different types of facelifts to give you a proper idea about the whole thing before you contact a surgeon.

A surgical procedure that involves minimizing the various signs of ageing around the face and neck area is called a facelift, also known as rhytidectomy. There are numerous types of facelift surgeries, a few common ones are discussed below-

  1. The deep plane procedure: There is a layer beneath our skin known as the superficial musculoapnoneurotic system (SMAS). The muscles of facial expression are surrounded by this layer. The deep plane lift is the most commonly used face-lift technique and in this technique, the SMAS is lifted, released and repositioned. After the repositioning of this layer, the loose, extra skin is removed and the edges of the layer are structured and stapled in place. This is by far the best-voted technique and is known to give long-lasting results with a lesser number of revisions.
  2. The short scar lifts: This includes various types of facelift techniques, which involve minimal scar formation. The short scar lift techniques, unlike the others, do not extend beyond the ears. The surgeon can re-suspend all those tissues that support the smile-line and jowls, thereby, tightening a moderate amount of loose skin wherever required.
  3. FAT auto transfer?: In this technique, fat from the buttock/stomach/thigh area is collected by the process of liposuction and is then injected into the face to fill in the required areas.

However, the most important part is to contact a certified cosmetic surgeon because as already discussed, this is a life-changing decision, and one wrong move can cost you a lot.

Liposuction Versus Laser Lipolysis - Which One Is Better?

Liposuction Versus Laser Lipolysis - Which One Is Better?

Are you extremely obese and struggling to lose weight? Is sticking to a diet or an exercise routine too difficult for you? You should consult your doctor about weight reduction surgeries. While most people think about liposuction when they want to lose those extra kilos surgically, laser lipolysis may be the better procedure to undergo.

Why liposuction is dangerous?
Liposuction is the most popular fat reducing surgery. During the procedure, doctors inject saline along with epinephrine and lidocaine into your body. This solution makes it easier for fat extraction during the suction procedure. It also limits the blood flow during the suction.

Here is a look at some dangers associated with conventional liposuction –
• You may suffer from excessive bleeding
• You may go into a shock because of insufficient fluids in your body at the time of surgery
• You may retain fluid in small pockets under your skin
• You may suffer from a fat embolism, where pieces of fat inhibit blood flow in the body
• The removal of fat from your body during the surgery may be uneven
• You can suffer damages to vital organs, such as lungs, liver and kidneys, along with damage to muscles, blood vessels and nerves
• The surgery may lead to a blood clot formation in the body, which becomes dangerous if it reaches the lungs
This is why you should opt for a laser lipolysis surgery instead if you are looking to lose weight.

What is laser lipolysis?
Laser lipolysis is a form of minimally invasive liposuction. In this procedure, doctors use heat from lasers to melt the fatty deposits. Lipolysis does not involve suction, unlike liposuction surgeries. Therefore, the risk of bleeding is very low. Additionally, lipolysis enhances the production of collagen in the body, making your skin taut even after weight loss.

Benefits of laser lipolysis-
Here is a look at some reasons why you should consider laser lipolysis, instead of the traditional liposuction –

• Little or no risk of infection at the site or surgery
• Little or no risk of scarring due to the surgery
• The recovery period is shorter than other weight loss surgeries

Procedure for laser lipolysis-
• The doctor will administer local anaesthesia on the site of surgery
• He/she will make a small incision
• A small machine delivering the laser will be positioned inside the upper layer of the skin
• You will experience periodic heating and cooling in the region
• Melted fat will be massaged or vacuumed out from the body

Consult your doctor regarding laser lipolysis today, so that you can shed the excess weight and get back to a healthier lifestyle.

Bariatric Surgery - What Should You Know About It?

Bariatric Surgery - What Should You Know About It?

Obesity and a shapeless body are problems that plague many people around the world. Besides leading to an appearance that is less than ideal, it can also lead to severe health problems include heart failure, heart diseases, diabetes and more. While there are many ways to combat being overweight with the help of exercise and a proper diet and even medication, very severe causes of obesity can also be fixed with a surgical process known as Bariatric Surgery. So, here's everything you need to know about it.

  1. Affecting the Digestive Process: As per the normal digestive process, the food moves into the digestive tract, while its nutrients get collected with the help of a well functioning system that includes digestive juices and enzymes. This food moves through the digestive tract, passing through the oesophagus, before it goes down into the stomach where it meets the strong digestive acids, which break it down, and then it enters the small intestine. While the stomach can hold three pints of food at a time, there is a chance that some of this food may not get properly digested in the small intestine. In this case, the food enters the large intestine. Now, Bariatric Surgery helps in restricting the amount of food that a person can have and hold in the first place.
  2. The Process: This surgical procedure may be carried out by cutting open the stomach and removing a portion of the same. This procedure can also reroute the small intestine into the gastric pouch or the small stomach pouch. This process can also be done with laparoscopic invasion, where a few small incisions will be used to insert a tiny camera and instruments for the process.
  3. Ideal Candidates: If your BMI or body mass index is more than 40, then you can opt for this kind of surgery, as mere dieting and exercising will not help you in your weight loss endeavour. This surgery can also help in preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The patient also has to have reached the normal adult height in order to qualify for this surgery.
  4. Side Effects: After the surgery, the patient may experience a few side effects including leakages and bleeding. An incisional or an internal hernia may also occur after the surgery. Also, for patients who have a poor diet, there may be complications after the surgery due to less intake of necessary vitamins and minerals.

Once you undergo the surgery, it is important to commit to a proper diet with less food intake and proper exercise on a lifelong basis.

Body Contouring - Find The Better You!

Body Contouring - Find The Better You!

Not sure if there is anyone who is happy with their image - different people have different complaints. Fat thighs, fat upper arms, too thin legs, sagging breasts, pot belly, the list is just too long. While exercise and diet can be used to achieve overall fitness levels, they cannot produce the body shape that you have in mind (simulating your celebrity body part maybe). Almost all complaints revolve around the excess fat (in most cases) and about the quality of the skin.

However, there are various surgical methods which can produce results that are amazingly quick, effective, and safe.

Body contouring is usually done by removing excess fat deposits and skin from various parts of the body. The skin also gets tightened during the process, also reducing cellulite. While most women complain about thighs and hips, men complain about their stomach area.

Some of the common body sculpting procedures includes:

  1. Arm lifts: With age, there is excessive fat accumulation and sagging of the upper arm, which can be corrected by removing excess fat. Contrarily, thin arms can be helped by using biceps implants.
  2. Tummy tucks: The excess skin and fat is removed from the tummy area and the muscles are tightened to produce a firmer look
  3. Thigh lift: Another common area of concern, the tone is improved by removing excess, loose skin.
  4. Pectoral implants: Can be used in men who desire muscular chests.
  5. Butt lifts and butt implants: These are used to alter the shape of the buttocks, either reducing it or firming it up.

In all these body contouring procedures, liposuction is the common technique.

Is it for you? If you are in overall good health with good thick and elastic skin, go for it. However, have realistic expectations by having a detailed discussion with the doctor. It will definitely help in fat removal, cellulite reduction, and skin tightening; however, the key is to set a common goal and work towards it.

What Is A Tummy Tuck? Medical Benefits Of The Surgical Procedure!

What Is A Tummy Tuck? Medical Benefits Of The Surgical Procedure!

Tummy tuck also known as an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck surgery is a form of cosmetic surgery, which is used to remove excess fat and skin from the abdomen as well as tighten the muscles in your abdominal regions. Similar to 'mommy makeovers' (a procedure applicable after pregnancy, which helps women restore their figure).

Tummy tuck surgery is used to help patients treat that loose and sagging skin who have experienced excessive weight loss within a relatively short period of time. Although, it is usually done for cosmetic reasons, it does provide a large number of medical benefits, such as:

1. Reduction in stress urinary incontinence: Stress Urinary Incontinence is a bladder control problem that is characterized by involuntary urination because of exercises or normal bodily functions such as sneezing or coughing which might put pressure on the bladder. In some women, (SUI) can develop after a vaginal birth. The condition does not generally require a surgery. However, research has shown that in severe cases, abdominoplasty is helpful in patients who do not have a caesarean section. A slight bladder obstruction is made during the procedure using soft tissue which reduces the incontinence.

2. Better posture and improved abdominal tone: Strong muscles tend to become weak after multiple pregnancies and extreme weight loss. In these cases, diet and exercise are not enough. Abdominoplasty surgically removes excess fat and skin thereby, tightening weak muscles and flattening the abdomen. It is noticed that after the surgery, the patients develop an improved posture due to the tightened muscles supporting the spine. This helps in relieving a variety of back pains.

3. Correction of ventral hernia: Ventral Hernia is the bulging out of tissues through a defect, opening or past incisions within the wall muscles of the abdomen. In such a case, the surgeon may opt for Abdominoplasty to support the abdominal wall and prevent recurrences.

Laser Assisted Liposuction - How Can It Be Of Help?

Laser Assisted Liposuction - How Can It Be Of Help?

Your genetic background influences where your body fat is stored. In case, your mother or father has fat stored in the abdomen, hips, waist or in the thigh, it is likely for you to develop deposits of fat in the same regions.

Circumstances of Genetic Fat

  • You may have a proper or a balanced BMI (body mass index) but still tend to develop bulges in areas, which are likely to make you look disproportional.
  • You may become obese by development of excess fat accumulation in the lower abdomen region, referred to as pannus. Extra fat may accumulate in your lower back and hips as well, which cannot be lost in spite of taking weight losing measures.

Liposuction to get rid of extra fat:

  • Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that allows you to remove genetic fat or any extra fat from the body, in order to change the body's shape. Liposuction does not remove cellulites and tightening of loose skin cannot be done.
  • Liposuction removes excess fat from the body by suction. Small, narrow tubes with blunt tips known as the cannulae are inserted through incisions in the skin surface. The tubes are moved under the skin to target the suction of fat deposits.

There are several types of liposuction techniques:

  1. Tumescent Liposuction: In this form of liposuction, a wetting solution such as lidocaine with a local anesthetic is injected into the patient before surgery. This causes the shrinking or constriction of blood vessels due to which it allows liposuction to be performed while the patient is under local anaesthesia. Blood loss and post surgical pains are reduced.
  2. Suction Assisted Liposuction: This mode of liposuction also known as SAL is the most primary form of liposuction. It involves drawing out of fat using a vacuum.
  3. Power Assisted Liposuction: This liposuction technique called PAL in short involves the process of SAL with an extra tool for increasing the motion of the cannula. The process is faster.
  4. Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction: This process (UAL) involves the transmission of energy via a specialized hand piece for loosening and melting of fat. A greater volume of fat can be removed via UAL.
  5. VASER: It is a variation of the UAL method where an ultrasonic cannula with grooves helps in energy disruption to improve removal of fat.

Laser Assisted Liposuction:
LAL is a newly developed liposuction technology where a laser works like an ultrasound for disruption and removal of fat cells. This mode is more efficient and involves less trauma. Liposuction is an effective way to remove unwanted, genetic fat from your body, which may be harming your body image. However, liposuction is associated with severe side effects.

Brow Lifts: Know Its After Care

Brow Lifts: Know Its After Care

A brow lift is also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical cosmetic procedure that corrects flaws in the skin above the eyes. It flattens the lines and wrinkles on the skin, tightens the sagging skin that appears to advance in age and restores youthful skin. More and more people are undergoing the treatment every year with a high rate of success.

Features that can be corrected with brow lifts:

  1. Sagging and horizontal eyebrows that create an expression of exhaustion
  2. Deep horizontal folds on the forehead skin
  3. Excess fatty skin that droops over the eyelids
  4. Frown lines between the eyebrows

Types of brow lift and the respective procedures

  1. Traditional or coronal brow lift: The patient is put under general anesthesia and an incision is made on the forehead, just below the hairline to hide the scar. The excess skin is removed and the necessary skin tissues are lifted and tightened for a smooth appearance. Finally, the incision is stitched up.
  2. Endoscopic brow lift: This surgery is also done under general anesthesia, but a number of tiny incisions are made on the scalp. An endoscope is put in through the incisions so that the area of surgery is seen on a computer screen. Other surgical instruments are used to lift the skin tissue on the forehead, reposition the eyebrows and remove all the extra skin and muscle tissue. Then, the incisions are closed with stitches.
  3. Temporal incision brow lift: This procedure is done with eyelid surgery. It requires larger incisions than those of endoscopic brow lift and these cuts are made just above the temples. Then the tissues above the eyebrows are repositioned, extra tissues between the eyebrows are also removed to flatten the frown lines.

Post-surgical care and recovery

  1. You have to stop smoking and taking anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medication for a few weeks before and after the surgery.
  2. Using a cold compress is recommended in case of post-surgical pain. There may also be prescribed ointments that are applied at the cut.
  3. Your head needs to be kept elevated when lying down for a few days.
  4. You should have gauze and clean towels readily available in case of minor bleeding.
  5. You may also experience slight swelling and bruising on the non-operated areas of the face. The pain and itching sensations experienced during recovery are milder in case of traditional brow lift than in case of endoscopicbrow lift.
