Regards Lybrate user. Is she taking any current medications that were prescribed after surgery? Did the swelling in the lips occur suddenly or over a period of time? Is there any other changes in her bowel movement patterns?
The lower lip swelling may not be directly related with the hip surgery. Occasionally, medications taken after surgery may have side effects or may interact with regular medicines (if she was taking them before surgery). It is recommended to consult the surgeon or a gene...more

Regards lybrate-user. I concur with Dr. Julie in regard to torticollis (which means "asymmetrical head or neck position due to a potential problem in the neck muscles or bones"). Posture of neck is dependent on balance of musculature and it could be influenced by constant positioning of head towards any 1 direction (rotation or side bent). The dysfunctional posture could be developmental (i.e. From birth or early onset) or from adopting bad postures. Also to note, if you feel there is worsening ...more

I had joint and probably tendon pain for 3 months (cannot grab things, everything hurts, sleeping on shoulder hurts, my muscles all gone, stiff in wrist and elbow, cannot run, walk, exercise as joints hurt) and at first thought it could be arthritis but I tested negative for rheumatoid factor and all and doctor said it wasn't autoimmune problem. If I am negative for rheumatoid arthritis, does that mean I don't have arthritis at all or I could have a different type of arthritis like osteoarthritis etc. Also, I was given arcoxia before test results that said was for joint pain and arthritis and it did made my joints feel better the day after consuming it, no knee, shoulder, wrist, elbow pain (maybe still a little but not as usual). If the arcoxia pills were effective then does that mean I have arthritis or tendonitis? Also they said could be because of stress and anxiety depression that I have unexplainable pains and I do feel a little stressed and anxious these days with depressive thoughts, so could be because my neurotransmitters are low but I am not sure and haven't gone to psychiatrist that doctor recommended cause I was too young for arthritis he said (19yo) so he suspected other things as my test results were also negative saying I am fine. Please, I need explanation before my body dysfunctions and falls apart and then doctors come and notice, I cannot image not being able to use my body.

Cold compresses can help reduce swelling in the area. Cooling also helps to numb sharp pain. Apply an ice pack for up to 20 minutes, up to five times a day. Use a frozen gel pack, ice cubes in a plastic bag, or a bag of frozen peas. Wrap the cold pack in a soft towel. Do not apply a cold pack directly to skin.

Hand dystonia is a focal dystonia characterized by excessive, involuntary muscle contractions in the fingers, hand, forearm, and sometimes shoulder. Symptoms usually appear when a person is doing a task that requires fine motor coordination of hand and arm muscles. There is no current cure for focal dystonias, either through medical or at-home treatments. However, there are some treatment approaches that have been met with success. These include taking medications known as anticholinergics. Doct...more

Resisted terminal knee extension: make a loop with a piece of elastic tubing by tying a knot in both ends. Close the knot in a door at knee height. Step into the loop with your injured leg so the tubing is around the back of your knee. Lift the other foot off the ground and hold onto a chair for balance, if needed. Bend the knee with tubing about 45 degrees. Slowly straighten your leg, keeping your thigh muscle tight as you do this. Repeat 15 times. Do 2 sets of 15. If you need an easier way to ...more

Treatment options depend upon the severity and stage of the disease. In very early stages, the treatment can be as simple as observation or immobilization. For more advanced stages, surgery is usually considered. Hand therapy does not change the course of the disease; however, it can help to minimize impairment from the disease. Treatment is designed to relieve pain and restore function.
Your hand surgeon will advise you of the best treatment options and explain the risks, benefits and side-...more
