Full vaccination under standard precautions immunity normally lasts for 3-5 years. But in case of re exposure with a confirmed rabies dog bite or street dog causing injury that is extensive and nearer the head or face or a street dog always consult a doctor or a surgeon that time. Consider 2 dose booster during that period beyond one year from now. It is better to be extra safe.

10 days back I fed a stray cat by pouring a glass of milk in cats bowl. Im not sure if the glass touched cats bowl or some droplets spilled on the glass. My daughter who is 18 and half months old exactly after an hour picked the glass from the table and put it in mouth. What are the possibilities of rabies transmission here. Does she need booster dose now? It is exactly 5 months since she received her 4 dose of rabies vaccine in october for another nonbite exposure. This time out of anxiety I took her to my pediatrician and insisted her for a booster dose but she said boosters are recommended only after a year and that rabies is not a routine vaccine and there would be many side effects. As far as I read 2 Booster doses are recommended after the second exposure right. Am I putting my daughter at risk. Is there a time frame in which boosters are not required for the second exposure. I know exposure is highly unlikely in my case. But me being a paranoid mom want to ease my mind by understanding the logic here. Does my daughter who is just 1 and half years old have enough immunity against rabies without a booster?

As per your history there are very very very less chances that the rabies virus would have travelled from the cats saliva (also here we do not know if the cat has rabies) into the milk and from the milk into the baby's mouth which might have somewhere a break in the mucous membrane leading eventually to a rabies virus inside the body through the breach in the mucous membrane. The chances are definitely very very less.

y way of its antioxidant activity, ashwagandha also acts as a premier immune-booster. ... So much so, that immunity could even start attacking the body's healthy tissues. As an antioxidant, however, ashwagandha counters this. In other studies too, ashwagandha has done other notable tasks for helping immunity.A

According to the latest who guidelines on rabies vaccination, the duration of immunity from pre-exposure prophylaxis (prep) rabies vaccination is now considered to be at least 3 to 10 years. This is an update from the previous recommendation of a duration of at least 2 years. However, the duration of immunity can vary depending on factors such as individual immune response and exposure risk, so it is still recommended to receive a booster dose of rabies vaccine if there is a high risk of exposur...more

Hi doctor, my kid current age is 17 months .so far for my kid we have taken vaccines at government health centres and also additional vaccines which are not available at government health centres those we have taken at private hospitals. In private hospital at 18th months age they are giving vaccines — dpt 1st booster, hib 1st booster, ipv 1st booster. Seems they will give these vaccines as combination of one injection i.e hexavalent vaccine. Is this correct? If not please let us know the vaccine name. But when we enquired in government health centres, they told for above 1 year kids they will not give penta (dpt+hepatitis-b+hib) vaccine. There they will give only dpt-1 booster not giving hib booster. As we are affordable to take additional required vaccines, so at 18 months, for my kid do we need to take dpt booster alone at government centre or can we go to private hospital to take all dpt, hib,ipv boosters? Please clarify on this.

Good afternoon!
sir, I can understand your confusion, actually 2 major schedules that may be followed at large scale here in india are nis schedule (national immunization schedule), and iap schedule (indian academy of pediatrics). Also some institutions may have their own vaccination schedule too. The government actually follows the nis schedule, that you are talking about the government vaccines, and giving only dpt booster at 18 months, comes under nis schedule. Under this the government a...more

I presume you have taken 5 doses of vaccine. Followed by 2 booster doses. This will give immunity for one year. However alcohol is known to reduce natural immunity of body. 5 +2 post exposure doses is ok.
