Hymenoplasty - Treatment, Procedure And Side Effects

What is the treatment?

Hymenoplasty is a surgery performed to restore a ruptured hymen. Hymen is a symbol of purity in many cultures whereas scientific evidences suggest that this thin membrane was meant to keep out infection in the vagina. Although a hymen is a sign of virginity, it can get ruptured due to non-sexual reasons such as running, jumping or any other form of athletic activities; some women are also born without a hymen!

Hymenoplasty can be done in two ways – if the remnants of the hymen are present, then it can be stitched back together. The second option is to reconstruct a new hymen using tissues from the patient’s body. Along with restoring the hymen, you can also get the vaginal walls tightened. This surgery will repair the hymen, but you will experience bleeding and discomfort the next time it ruptures.

Although a lot of conservative societies emphasize the need for a virgin bride, this procedure has gained immense popularity in the less conservative societies such as in the United States and Europe.

Hymenoplasty is a very safe procedure, but you need to be very careful when you pick a doctor. Since this is done in an intimate area of the body, you need to make sure that you are very comfortable with the doctor. Do your research and choose a doctor who has sufficient experience and expertise in performing the procedure.

How is the treatment done?

First of all, you will need to schedule a consultation with the doctor to discuss the procedure and make your expectations clear and concise. The doctor will give you an insight about the surgery along with instructions to prepare for hymenoplasty.

  • The basic technique - If there are remains of the hymen, it can be stitched back together. A local or sometimes a general anesthesia will be administered to prevent pain and discomfort. The surgeon will then sew the torn parts together – the stitches are dissolvable. The entire surgery takes around 30 to 40 minutes and it is usually done on an outpatient basis.
  • The Alloplant technique – This technique is followed when the remnants cannot be stitched back together. The surgeon will insert a biomaterial into the vagina and this tear-through material will function as the hymen. This procedure takes around two hours and you will be under local anesthesia.
  • Hymen reconstruction – In this procedure, the surgeon will create a new hymen using tissues from the lip of the vagina. However, this method will require you to abstain from sexual intercourse for a minimum of three months.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

Usually, women seek hymenoplasty for cultural and religious reasons. In most cases, the person would have lost her virginity in an intercourse and wants to restore it before her marriage. In some cases, the girl would have lost her hymen due to non-sexual activities, but yet again due to the religious or social norms, they find it imperative to repair the hymen.

The suitable candidates are –

  • Those who have ruptured their hymen due to sex or other activities
  • Those who are above 18 years of age
  • Women who are healthy and don’t suffer from any serious illnesses

A gynecological exam is also necessary to determine if your hymen can be restored or not.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

Women who suffer from any venereal diseases or have genital cancer are not eligible for this treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Some of the potential side-effects of hymenoplasty include –

  • Post-op swelling, pain and bruising
  • Hematomas and bleeding
  • Discoloration of the hymen
  • Numbness

However, these are minor side-effects and the medical team will make sure that it takes all the necessary precautions to avoid the issues and lessen the discomfort.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

The patient will be observed for a few hours in the recovery room after the treatment and if there are no complications, she will be relieved. The individual can resume work after 3 to 4 days. However, it is advised to begin moderate activities only after 10 days.

Some of the other guidelines include:

  • You will need to keep the area clean and will be on antibiotics to prevent any infection.
  • You should use warm compresses and ice-packs to ease pain and swelling.
  • You can take a bath 2 – 3 days after the surgery.
  • You need to refrain from sex till 8 weeks after the surgery.

How long does it take to recover?

It takes around 4 to 6 weeks for complete healing.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

The cost of hymenoplasty depends largely on the healthcare facility. At public hospitals, the treatment will cost you around INR 14,000 to INR 15,000 whereas, at a private hospital, the same will cost you INR 50,000 to INR 60,000.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

Medical technology has come a long way – today all kind of medical treatments have the best results that last for a long time. Hymenoplasty is also no different; with proper care, the result will last till the next sexual encounter.

What are the alternatives to the treatment?

There are a couple of other alternatives to hymenoplasty such as –

  • Laser vaginal rejuvenation – In this procedure, laser beams are used for fix the torn hymen. This is also a non-invasive process, which is more comfortable and has a shorter recovery period.
  • Vaginoplasty – In this approach, the surgeon will tighten the vaginal tissue to create a healed hymen.

Both these alternatives do not deliver an un-ruptured hymen, but you will get a tightened vaginal opening.

What Are The Benefits and Procedure of Hymenoplasty?
These days everything is available, including a new body. You can get a new nose, jaw, perky breasts and yes, a brand new hymen as well, all through plastic surgery. The procedure of hymen restoration or reconstruction is called hymenoplasty, hymenorrhaphy, virginity surgery or just hymen reconstruction surgery. The hymen, as you know is a ring-like membrane in a woman s vagina. It usually ruptures due to vigorous exercise or sexual penetration. This is also usually the reason many women, egged on by families, decide to go for the reconstruction of their hymen because certain cultures value female virginity and losing one s virginity before marriage is a taboo. Benefits: The benefits of hymenoplasty , if any, are that it allows women to take control of their futures in conservative societies. If she has been sexually active pre-marriage, she can still decide to go for a traditional marriage without the fear of ostracization. Hymenoplasty surgery restores the ability of the hymen to bleed at intercourse on the wedding night. Victims of sexual assault can also use the procedure to get over the traumatic event and its memories. Some women like to get a hymen rejuvenation to feel young again. Procedure: Hymenorrhaphy can be done months or years after a woman loses her virginity. It must be performed only by a plastic surgeon. In this procedure, the torn edges of the hymen are sutured back together. If done correctly, the touched-up hymen appears as good as new and bleeds on sexual penetration. Sutures dissolve by themselves after a few days. Hospital stay is only 5-6 hours post hymenorrhaphy. The procedure is done under anesthesia and it usually takes less than an hour to finish. Patients are discharged from hospital the same day and are advised not to do any vigorous activity like playing games, climbing stairs, and of course sex. Risk involved: There are no documented risks of hymenoplasty and there are no complications either, if the surgeon is good. If an adverse reaction occurs, it s temporary. Usually any discomfort in the private parts and swelling in the outer parts of the vagina usually subsides within days. Recovery: The recovery time is minimal and the patient can return to work next day, if she wants. Complete healing, though, takes approximately 4 weeks. Good hygiene is important to avoid infection. Patients are advised to contact their doctor immediately after a hymenorrhaphy if there is fever, abdominal pain, bleeding from vagina or the reconstructed hymen.

Facts About Hymen!
Contrary to what most girls have been led to believe about the hymen being a flat tissue that covers the vagina and is ripped during penetrative intercourse, the truth is that hymen is a fringe of tissue around the vaginal opening. It is not an intact tissue draping across the vaginal wall because without any outlet for the menstrual blood, girls would get periods only after they lose their virginity. (Know more about Irregular Periods) Here are a few mind-boggling facts about the hymen. Just like labia, every woman's hymen varies in color, size and shapes. It is elastic and stretchy in most cases. Vaginal delivery makes the hymen less visible by smoothening and stretching it. Despite popular belief, the pain women experience when they have sex for the first time is not due to your hymen breaking, but because your vaginal muscles are too tense and/or you're going at it too rough and fast without adequate lubrication. Simple exercises such as walking, riding bicycles, doing splits as well as horseback riding may rip your hymen long before you have had intercourse. Hymens should not be perceived as the indicator of sexual activity because they are extremely stretchy and stay with you your entire life. Even sexually active people have hymens. If you do not resort to any sexual activity (including penetration during masturbation), the hymen returns to its default position in your vulva. Very few women have an imperforate hymen in which the opening is too small for penetration whether by tampons, fingers, sex toys or an erect penis. A simple surgery needs to be conducted in such a case where parts of the hymen are snipped away. There is a growth in hymenoplasty, also known as hymen reconstruction surgery, in the past few years because hymen is viewed as an indicator of virginity and there have been cases of annulment, public humiliation, torture and even death because they believe that the hymen is not intact due to sexual activity; therefore making hymenoplasty an effective solution. Although, not an indicator of the amount of sexual activities performed, one must seek immediate medical attention after being sexually assaulted because it can be examined to prove sexual abuse. Cosmetic Gynaecology - 7 Techniques For You
A woman is an extraordinary and beautiful creation of nature, and it is natural that she would want to see herself as perfect and complete. And, staying sexually attractive is one of the major factors that motivate a woman to seek the benefits of Cosmetic Gynaecology. Cosmetic Gynaecology or Intimate Aesthetic Surgery covers procedures which alter the appearance of female external genitalia and make it seem more natural and youthful. These methods, aid in correcting congenital defects, enhances the self*confidence of a woman, and positively affects the intimacy she shares with her partner. With age and life events like childbirth, the vagina and labia often change in appearance and structure, which not only hampers the feeling of self-worth in a woman, but also prevents her from enjoying sexual activities completely and Cosmetic Gynaecology emerges as the savior in such situations. Here are some procedures, which are here to help the fairer sex rediscover the beauty of their body: * Vaginal Rejuvenation: With the help of laser technique, this process helps in tightening the internal diameter of the vagina, when it gets stretched during birth or owing to genetic factors. * Labiaplasty: Through this method, the contours of the labia majora or labia minora are changed. It may cover reconstruction, augmentation or reduction. * Hymenoplasty: It is done to create a pseudo hymenal membrane from hymenal tissue, which already exists or non*hymenal soft tissue. The intention is to cause bleeding when the membrane tears during intercourse. * Clitoroplasty: This procedure deals with the surgical transformation of the clitoris, which caters to conditions involving increased tissue volume. It can also aid in creating clitoris in transgender women. * Clitoral Hood Reduction: The method is focused on the loose skin around the clitoris, and can be conducted during labiaplasty or as a separate procedure. * Monsplasty: The contours of the Mons pubis can be changed through this process. It involves liposuction for the reduction of excess fat, subcutaneous fat, as well as skin. Often, techniques like laser and ultrasound are used during monsplasty. * Perineoplasty: Repairing and restoration of the loose, ageing or injured perineum is taken care of through this method. Perineum is the area between the vagina opening and the rectum. And this procedure is usually helpful for women who don't heal efficiently after a vaginal delivery or experience scars. So if you are worried about the structure or appearance of your intimate area, don't fret.

What is Cosmetogynaecology?

Dr. Jagdip Shah 92% (151 ratings)

What is Cosmetogynaecology?
What is Cosmetogynaecology? Cosmetogynaecology refers to the specialization in female cosmetic medicine and surgery. We live in an age where appearance primarily defines your personality and acts a great deal in boosting self-confidence and morale. Since time immemorial, we have never been pleased with what have been given to us. Thanks to this trait, scientists are always looking for new ways to satisfy our needs. Don t like your nose? Think it s too fat? Want to look like Megan Fox? Medical science can now do all this, and beyond! What does Cosmetogynaecology include? Cosmetogynaecology is a subset of cosmetic surgery that mainly caters to the needs of women and includes cosmetic procedures such as- G-spot Augmentation: This procedure mainly concentrates on increasing the size and sensitivity of the G-spot to amplify pleasure during intercourse. It is also known as G-spot amplification Genital area Bleaching and Resurfacing: Genital bleaching is a safe and easy way to whiten your intimate areas. As for genital resurfacing, it is a procedure to even out the appearance around the intimate area or to improve the colour on the clitoral hood. Labia Augmentation: This procedure includes the surgical enlargement of the Labia Majora (part of women s genitalia) in order to improve the contour or increase the fullness to make it look more appealing. Vaginal Tightening: Several factors can lead to the loosening of the vaginal walls, including childbirth. This can reduce the pleasure during intercourse for you and your man. These treatments can be done by lasers, which are non-invasive and work wonders! Permanent Laser Hair Removal: We all know the extent of pain that women go through in order to make themselves fuzz-free. And the amount of money that goes in doing that annually is probably enormous. Laser hair removal can permanently take care of this issue and you will be ever ready for a party. Breast Size Augmentation or Reduction: Getting breast implants (silicone or saline) can be used to increase the size of your breasts if you are not too happy with your gifted assets. It can also be done for reconstructive purposes after undergoing mastectomy post breast cancer. On the other hand, large breasts can be the cause of chronic back pain. If that bothers you too much, you can have them reduced to your desired size. Vaginoplasty: Vaginoplasty is a plastic surgery for both the vaginal canal and the tissues of its mucous membrane that tightens. The procedure strengthens those muscles and tissues while removing excess or damaged lining from the canal. It is specifically designed to strengthen and enhance the working of the vulva-vaginal body structures. When vaginal plastic surgery is performed to specifically construct or reconstruct the vulva-vaginal complex, either partially or totally, it is referred to as a neovaginoplasty. When the surgery is performed to specifically reshape the tissue and firm the muscles and lining of the vaginal canal for a more youthful appearance plus tighten up the canal after the stretching it endures through childbirth, then it is termed a vagina reduction for cosmetic reconstruction and is considered an elective surgical procedure. Hymenoplasty: Hymenoplasty is the procedure to restore natural hymen to regain virginity. In simple words, hymenoplasty is repair of broken hymen or ruptured hymen and is the sure shot way to restore or regain virginity. The layered ultrafine microsurgical repair of hymen being done at Olmec leads to a normal hymen without any sign of repair and without any sign of lost virginity. Clitoroplasty: A clitoroplasty is a surgical procedure that refines or improves the appearance of a woman s clitoris. It can also be performed to create an artificial clitoris in men undergoing sex reassignment surgery. It is also known as clitoral hood reduction, as it can reduce the size of the clitoral hood in some patients. Labiaplasty: Labia surgery, which usually involves labia reduction and vaginal rejuvenation, or tightening, are becoming as common today as other cosmetic procedures. New advancements and techniques in Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty typically lessen scarring, pain, recovery time, and show excellent results in the area sometimes referred to as Vaginal Cosmetic Surgery.

You cannot regain your virginity. You can choose to keep your past secret as many men are not that broad minded to accept. You can either feign being a virgin or claim hymen was torn due to vigorous exercise . All the best

For PCOS & High prolactin -Both are hormonal imbalance and long time treatment is required with patience. Depending on history, examination findings, reports and stage of life treatment changes so meet Gynecologist in whom you have trust and are ready to visit often. Overwight is very common so in case you have that reduction of weight helps tremendously. Labia minora needs to be examined if only size has increased and nothing in examination, nothing needs to be done.
