Dear user. I can understand. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Smoking can affect your mouth, throat, lungs, heart, stomach and brain in many ways. Cancer is one among the potential diseases smoking can cause. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative for cigarettes. But still...more

Detailed assessment is needed. Like the reason behind smoking, number of cigarettes (10 being towards the higher side) and comorbid medical condition. Next you should be assessed for withdrawal from smoking and for reducing further craving. If you consult a psychiatrist they will be able to help you. All the best.

Hi there ~
there are many ways in which one might want to quit smoking. Primarily if you are smoking only 8 cigarettes per day I would suggest that you fix a quit date on which you will be smoking no cigarettes at all and you may have to decrease smoking by cutting down on one cigarettes every 2-3 days or so, such that you reach your goal of no cigarettes by the quit date. I hope this helps. Although there are medications to help quit

Sudden stoppage of cigarette smoking is often associated with withdrawal symptoms from body because of absence of nicotine, this is just temporary and will resolve in a week - 10 days, it manifests in form of bodyaches or anxiety etc. To reassure that it is not heart related you can get a ecg and chest-x-ray done, if they are normal and then just consult a psychologist to help you deal with this withdrawal phase.

Hi lybrate-user, Smoking definitely is not good for health especially to your lungs and also for those who are around you at the time you smoke. Yes it affects your children in many ways from partial breathing in, during pregnancy time, and also your health condition in fact plays a major role to your family members. Counseling alone will definitely not help you to stop smoking, it would be better if you seek a addiction center for the same. Take care of your health. Take necessary steps to stop...more

If he breaks the promise, do NOTt assume that that he does not love you and spoil your relationship. Understand that he needs help with withdrawal symptoms. Motivate him tha...more

Ask him to follow these instructions: You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go...more
