Mr. Lybrate-user, usually fasting sugar level is done after at least 8 hours after food (dinner), then again for convenience sake after food (after breakfast) is checked. If post lunch blood glucose is checked it may vary depending upon the size of meal. If your lunch is bigger in quantity than breakfast then blood glucose level will be more. The idea of taking after breakfast is to get an idea of post food level to decide the treatment.

If treatment is appropriate then blood sugar should be : Fasting closer to 100 mg and PP between 150 to 160 mg and HbA1c% <7. Similarly BP should be 130/80 mm of Hg or lower.
