Home Remedies For Nose Block: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

A nose block can be a really annoying situation. In reality nose blocks occur due to inflamed blood vessels in the sinuses, which form due to a common cold or the flu. Sometimes it may be caused by a sinus infection. A stuffy nose may be accompanied by other symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, and breathing difficulties. Use these common home remedies to take care of a nose block.

  1. Ginger
Ginger is an excellent remedy to stop the recurrence of whooping cough. It also has antibacterial immune-boosting properties that help fight the infection and also promote quick recovery. To use it, extract a tablespoon of ginger juice and mix it to raw honey. Take this twice a day for a few days. Alternatively you can also boil fenugreek seeds and add a few drops of freshly extracted ginger juice. Mix well and drink it. You can feel the relief within a few days of drinking it.
  2. Turmeric
Turmeric too has antibacterial and antiviral properties that can help in treating whooping cough. It even has a therapeutic effect on coughs and is better if taken at night before sleep. To make this, mix together a tablespoon of raw honey and ½ teaspoon of fresh turmeric powder. Intake it twice a day. Alternatively you can mix it to a glass of warm milk and drink it twice a day to ease the symptoms.
  3. Garlic
Garlic is a natural antibiotic to fight whooping cough. It has enough antibacterial and antiviral properties to make it an effective fighting agent against whooping cough. To use it, take a teaspoon of fresh garlic juice twice a day for about a week. You can even inhale the vapors. Boil some garlic in water and cover your head with a blanket or towel and inhale the effects for immediate relief.

Are there any side effects?

Since these home remedies are very simple and nature-based, they don't cause any side effects. However, to be on the safe side, buy these herbs from only reputed stores. Also, make sure they are free of impurities. Avoid using turmeric in the raw form. You can take it in its powdered form rather. Some may be allergic to certain herbs, and this must be tested before following any remedy. If you face any breathing difficulty or allergic reaction, stop the treatment immediately and seek medical help.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

Don't expose yourself to cold climates when you are following such home remedies. If you have underlying conditions such as sinus or whooping cough, make sure they are under check. You must practice consuming warm water for best results. Apart from this, make sure that you have access to a towel or a cloth or a hanky at all times. Whenever you sneeze, use the towel to cover your mouth as the infection can easily spread to others. Inhaling steam can be a relief too, and prevent future occurrences.

How long does it take to recover?

Nose blocks usually begin to ease from the moment you start following these home remedies. Recovery also depends on how bad your condition was to start with. Severe nose block cases can take a while to normalize. It is also important to consult a doctor to determine the underlying cause behind the condition. You can also use these treatments now and then to prevent problems in future.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

A blocked nose is often the result of various infections or asthmatic conditions. Hence, the remedies cannot solve this problem permanently. People with low immunity and susceptibility to cold are often more prone to this ailment. Thus, follow a healthy lifestyle to avoid future nose block attacks. Make sure that you drink only warm water and avoid cold foods like ice cream or cola. In case you have sinus problems, take separate treatments for them. Get yourself checked with a physician if the problem persists.

Is there any training or experts required?

Though there is no formal training required to follow these remedies, one must know the causes of these infections. If it is caused as a result of other ailments, the remedies may not work or sometimes cause opposite reaction. Also, do know your allergic levels before taking these herbs. If the symptoms do not go away through such home remedies, consult with your physician immediately.

How Nose Bleeding Can Be Controlled With Home Remedies?
Although nose bleeding is quite common during the cold months, they can occur in the summer months too. This is because, during the summer heat, your nose may tend to get excessively dry. The protective layer of mucus in the nasal cavity tends to dry up during the summer months, thus resulting in nose bleeding. The hot summers can also lead to allergies, which in result can cause it. Although nose bleeding may be quite messy, it is nothing very serious and can be easily prevented or stopped. Here are a few home remedies that you can try if you are prone to nose bleeding during the summer season: Vinegar: Vinegar is easily available in any household and effectively stops nose bleeding. Just pour in some vinegar in a cotton ball or a piece of cloth and put it into your nose for some time. Ice: Ice also effectively helps with controlling nose bleeding. Just rub ice against your nose to reduce swelling in the blood vessels. The ice will also effectively numb the pain offering instant relief. Foods containing vitamin C: Ensure that during the summer months you take the right amount of Vitamin C into your diet. This is because Vitamin C helps in blood clotting, and will stop nose bleeding faster. Foods that are rich in vitamin C are guavas, kale, mustard, parsley, oranges, strawberries and lemons. Baking soda: Baking soda works wonders for nose bleeding. Just mix some amount of baking soda into water, and transfer the solution into a spray bottle. Spray your nose with the solution. Steam: Inhaling steam is a great way to prevent nose bleeding. When you take steam, it moistens the nasal cavity and prevents it from becoming dry, thus avoiding any bleeding. Right posture: Another way to quickly stop a nose bleeding is to elevate your head. Keep your head in that position until the bleeding stops and try not to bend, as it can just aggravate bleeding. Whole-wheat bread: Make whole-wheat bread as part of your daily diet during summer. It is said to contain Zinc, which protects the blood vessels in the body. Drink water: ?Also ensure that you keep yourself hydrated at all times during the hot summer months. Drink plenty of liquids like fruit juice and milkshake, to prevent your nose from drying out.

Usually symptomatic treatment is used for all presumed viral infections. Saline nasal drops, cleaning the nostrils, and increasing the humidity of the room with a vaporizer or humidifier would make the child comfortable.
